Voice chat loops game audio through mic
This is an issue exclusive to BattleBit. All my other games and services don't do this, and I cannot find a fix.

Whenever I use voice chat, all game audio (ambiance, sound effects, other players talking over VOIP, etc.) is played directly into my input device. THIS IS NOT A SOUND LEAKAGE ISSUE. I have tried multiple sets of mics w/ speakers, headsets, and even a virtual audio cable to simulate an input device. No matter what, game output is sent with my voice chat input (I can still talk just fine).

I did not have this issue before my steam client updated the other day. But I can not find any other report of this issue outside of BattleBit.

I have already done the standard troubleshooting BS:
1. Set default devices in windows
2. Set default devices in steam
3. Update audio drivers
4. Uninstall/reinstall BattleBit
5. etc...

What I haven't tried is changing the configuration files for voice chat, but I cannot find them.

If anyone knows what's causing this, you will forever be in my debt.

If you don't mind me asking (just so I can try and figure out what may be a common problem between us):
  1. Are you using Windows? (mine is on most recent 10)
  2. If you are plugging your audio devices directly into your PC case / mobo, what motherboard do you have? (mine is a Z390)
  3. What audio controlller/drivers do you have? You can find them under Device Manager > Sound, Video, and Game Controllers, and the ver under right-click properties. (I use Realtek 6.0.8703.1 for 3.5mm direct connections)
  4. Under Steam Settings > Voice, do you have your input/output device set to your specific device, or did you leave it to default? (either doesn't work for me...)

It's just BattleBit i'm pretty sure. Happens once in a while.

Problem is it's not just once in a while. It's been ALWAYS happening for me ever since the steam ui update. Uninstalling/reinstalling, verifying file integrity, simply just waiting a few days.... doesn't work. Even tried using the old steam ui again without success...

Also if I DON'T have an input device plugged in, I can still do the Mic Test and toggle voice chat. I don't get the "No Input Device Found" warning that I used to, and the same issue occurs: my voice chat blasts the audio from the game (but I don't even have a mic).

I have the same problem on Windows 10 with earbuds, the game sound echoing in my mic is actually louder than my ingame sound.

still having this issue. couple more things I've tried:
  • setting default device EVERYWHERE in windows (sound mixer options, manage sound devices, sound settings, playback/recording devices, etc.)
  • disabling all other audio input/output not being used, even if not plugged in
  • modifying the mic settings in localconfig.vdf (steam ui file) manually

still having this issue even after the latest hotfix.

I too have been experiencing this issue, exclusive to BattleBit Remastered.

OCCASIONALLY I can fix it by restarting my PC. But It NEVER works initially. Plus if you test before connecting to a match, it seems like the mic is working, at least it plays back your voice. Then when in game if you do the test all you hear is LOUDER game audio and nobody in game ever responds to you talking.

It really seems like there are enough reports out there that they should be looking into what is causing this for a certain segment of the playerbase.

What device is listed under "Microphone Device" in the Audio settings for you?
Jumanjaydazed Jul 3, 2023 @ 4:39pm
It's a 3rd party app causing the issue. ie; OBS...turn off the mic capture in OBS. GG sonar..turn off aux and media.....etc.

I'm having this problem as well, I don't have any 3rd party apps doing mic capture. Its a rayzer headset so i do have their software installed.
Same here,I reinstall BB and checked mic not picking desktop audio.Nothing solves this problem.

I have looked into this problem a bit, and on their discord, I have discovered that apparently users who utilize a multi-channeled audio interface (i.e. Scarlett 2i2, MOTU M2, etc.) will sometimes have this problem. This is apparently a bug within Unity itself and not specifically BattleBit. Unity (or at least the version of unity that BattleBit is running off of) is not capable of reading multiple audio channels from a sourced input. I have not currently found any solutions to this problem, but will keep looking.

Update:
The way I have my audio inputs set up, my microphone is my second input and not my first which is what seems to have been causing the issues (at least in my case.) I literally just unplugged my microphone cable from my second input and moved it to my first, and that seems to have made it all work. Results may vary depending on the audio interface.
It is weird however that my microphone has worked in game chat previously and this happened only within the last hour when my friend pointed it out to me.
I recognize that this is a rather lame solution, but it worked for me. It's not as satisfying as Unity fixing their buggy engine and accounting for multiple audio channels, but for now this will do.

Same issue here with MOTU M2 Audio Interface, looks like there's no fix atm. Also tried changing mic input but didn't do anything sadly.

Edit: Just found the conversation you had on their discord with the dev (@Zax). Ty sm for going this far. We can only hope unity fixes their Long Term Support version that is used in BattleBit :( maybe the popularity of the game will put some pressure on Unity Devs

I was having the same issue with my UM2 interface, the only solution ive found is to use a virtual audio interface like VB-audio or Voicemod. with VB-audio you can output your mic through a different audio device, but this means you need to already have a spare audio device. voicemod makes a VAIO that the game can pick up and you can output through. I'm sure theres a better way to make a VAIO but i cant figure it out atm.
