Transporting passengers?
Being a fan of OpenTTD, my favorite part about that game was creating a sophisticated passenger transport system between cities and towns. Based on what I have read about RoI, it focuses more on the "industry" part, but are we able to make money off of passengers? If so, how does it simulate the passengers? Is it just a simple system like old OpenTTD (where passengers are treated as cargo), or do passengers have individual destinations? (like OpenTTD cargodist / cargodest)

If not, just a little bummer; I'm still definitely going to be looking forward for this game. Kudos for all the hard work!

Hey Phil!

As you pointed out, the game is just about industry. But much more than OTTD: research, gathering, farming, logistics, production, PR, global market, dynamic economy, world events, etc etc

Civilian stuff like placing shops and human transportation is not going to happen, sorry

Just something else - there were a few of us talking in the game Discord a while ago about this. The game is going to be moddable, so hopefully it should be possible to mod something like this in. As you say passengers can be treated as cargo, so the mechanism for moving them is obviously there, it's a case of the AI generating them and having somewhere to receive them.

I bet this would be one of the easiest and most popular mods ever. Unfortunately, it clashes with the core design, that's why us devs can't put it in

If this could be developed as a mod, that would be awesome! (Although I'm not sure if the game API would allow that much drastic change...) Maybe I could look at OpenTTD's cargodist implementation and try to port it to RoI.

Drastic? It's amongst the easiest things to add, you'll see! Hard would be a new type of pollution, new AI, new pathfinding, etc. I'm sure someone will figure it out eventually
