Product overview window
160 hrs later and still I'm really having a hard time understanding this. I don't understand how it figures profit vs loss. As far as I can tell, I'm making from from everything, otherwise I'd be broke and bankrupt all the time.

1) According to the Product overview and selling to state, I make more money from tier 1 then tier 2 or 3. Shouldn't that be the other way around?
For instance rubber vs tires, I make profit from rubber but not from tires per the overview which is not the case in game.

2) Town demands is kinda odd too. I make the most from produce. But if I sell livestock parts to a town I lose on it, like meat.

3) And finally produce (apples, oranges) selling to town makes more money then tier 2 selling to state.

4) Monthly vs 12 month, these two conflict at times. Like for fried chicken, in one game I had 24 buildings making fried chicken, per monthly I was making some money but per the 12 month report I was making negative 1 million.

5) Just loaded up my game, everything is in the negatives this month, last month, 12 months. So exactly how am I still not bankrupt but making money? The only thing in the positives is produce (like berries, apples, etc,)

Honestly If I was to have to wait for a town to grow up to make profit, I doubt I'd be playing this game at all. Research always outpaces town growth. And I like to be active and build constantly. 500 buildings in one region is not unheard of from me. And this is why I like the game too, build, build, build. Idling, waiting for something to happen gets boring quickly and get uninstalled forever.

I have found similar issues with my interest. I build a couple of industries that are demanded then just sit there watching because nobody close wants anything you're laying down and to get a line running to sell to another town requires such large production chains and long haul transport that it wipes out your profit margin. But apart from just waiting and hoping that a town pops up something viable to make, all I seem to be doing is sitting on basics and praying to the RNG gods that I get a product worth making.
Maybe if there was an option to invite demand in an area. Something that you can create the production line and send proposals to different towns to see if you can snag a contract for that product. This way the town is able to be "forced" to evolve and by attracting the trade, grow new shops and businesses.

I select either the region that has the road to state or or it's neighbor to keep down costs. But I'm unwilling to sit around and wait for a town to grow. Hence sell to state. I still make profit even though the report contradicts it.

Here's how it breaks down:

For this example I have dispatch & building costs turned off.

I have 38 fried chicken factories that produce 252 fried chicken per year. Fried chicken sells for 113k (per 1 average price) to state (I'm right next to state road). So 113k x 252 is about 28.5 million. Operating expenses (6.5m) and ingredients (1m) come out to 7.5 million and according to the 12 month overview I made 3 million profit. So where exactly did the other 18 million disappear to?

Or...

Rolling chasis, I produced 42 @1.23m) of them that sell for 51m, 430k in ingredients, 19 million in total cost (for some reason not explained in the game), And yet I get negative 2m profit. Why am I in the negatives and where is the other 33m?

This is a component, end game item, shouldn't I be making more off of it then apples and oranges?

*EDIT* - just saw you already helping a bunch with feedback in forums, +1 @Hade, still suggest chuck up a save file or two to show this happening

Interesting convo @Hade, maybe chuck it up on Bugs & Issues forum with your save file, if product overviews consistently printing wrong numbers then thats definetly a bug or issue ;) so sure Penguin will take a look at it.

Maybe something we are all missing and/or an improvement to be made, he would need a save file to confirm it though.

He is also prob the best dev ive ever had the pleasure to deal with, super quick and helpful, just gota help him see whats happening :)

Yea, Im not real sure why games to try reinvent the standard profit/loss statement sheets to some garbled up confusion sheets. Straight up numbers would be best for all as its kinda universal at this point in time amongst all countries.
