Make sure you have driving assists turned off and always use custom setups turned on in the options.

You can find setups on youtube or you can tinker with them yourself. If your unsure what the settings do...here is a guide.

Just make sure you only make small changes at a time. Run a few practice laps...rinse & repeat.

yeah i think an issue is that ive played with stability mode on a lot... i dont understand throttle mappings and stuff

Regardless of your stability help setting, try getting off the gas earlier, and don't get back on it until you're at the apex of your turn. At some of the shorter tracks you'll need to brake before the turn to get down to speed. Can't just keep the gas pedal floored all the way around the track, in most cases.

That's true...but you gotta admit the default setups suck.
When I first started playing I ran the default setups. No matter how much lifting or breaking I did...the car would always push out the center.

You might be able to adjust your wedge and tire pressures on pit road, (Which helps) but in the long run you're gonna still be slow.

I'm no setup expert, but I do know having the ability to adjust your shocks / springs / track-bars etc. will make the world of difference.

note: if you at texas in the cup car, try to get to that white ine and hug it on the turns like harvick did

Also try adjusting your wedge.
