setup not having an effect in career?

I've just started playing this game. In quick race I worked out a good truck setup for Atlanta with which I can lap consistently below 31s. I go into the first career race, make sure stability assist is off in the settings, and duplicate my quick race setup (annoying that you have to enter all the specs again, but whatever). My problem is that my setup doesn't seem to work, the truck feels like it's still using the default setup, and I'm at least 2 seconds a lap off my previous pace.

Do custom setups just not work in the early career "hotseat" races, or am I missing something?

FWIW I'm playing the 2018 season.

Are you racing for a 5-star team? Lower level teams' cars aren't as good in career, while in Quick Race all cars perform the same.

Nope, just whoever offered me that first drive. That might explain it at least partially. It still feels like setup changes make no difference, though.

Also, using the default setup, my quick race and career lap times were very similar. It was only when I tried doing my own setup that I noticed a difference. So the career truck doesn't seem generally slower, just stuck in the default setup.

I guess I'll do some more races and see if/when setups start working... hopefully when I get to a regular team instead of "hot seat" races.
