I think this is a great suggestion!
But Online may be a bit too stressfull in comparence too offline/ local playthrough.
You start the game in testing grounds and just switch seats/sides, as you explained. You either make one picture from both sides or simply keeping in mind your opponents positioning and place and play your units as usual.
Playing Online you would basically do the same thing but with a livestream. Your friend is only watching the livestream while he is commanding you what to do.
Remote Play together could be a interesting tool to avoid too much talking in such scenario...
I just share this if someone didnt figured it out already so we can play or test such mode out until developement takes his time to realise such idea.
