Anti air upgrade is only temporary and can help for earlier rounds but overtime it gets worse vs upgraded air.
Also the shield bubble can be nice if you want to permanently protect an area against acid/smoke/fire drops
Where fortress are great is when they are spammed. Shield bubble + Fang spawner on 4+ fortress makes your army very resilient
Yes, they're for crowd control while the Fortress is for... well actually it's in a weird place of being a multirole unit who's purpose is entirely based on what techs you put on it. Barrier, Armor Enhance, Fang Summon, and AA Barrage makes the ultimate tank while Double Shot, Launcher Overload, Elite Marksman, and Range Enhancement make it the highest burst damage machine in the game (and beaten only by the Phoenix with Charge Shot and Elite for highest single point damage). Usually the 'all round but do nothing well' build is what most people do with it though by mixing those two builds.
And if you're including techs in your calculation, LO + DS on the Fortress gives it a DPS of over 12k letting it kill an equal level and item Vulcan in about 3-4 seconds.
AA Barrage isn't meant to counter Overlords, it's meant to counter Wasp swarms and dissuade Phoenixes.
And that's basically it's job. It's entire purpose is to get enemies to focus on it while the rest of your high damage but squishy units get through tot the enemy without being shot at.
Its not incredible good against anything but pretty much decent against everything :)
It has solid Anti-Air
It is solid Anti medium size units
It can protect your other units
it is a semi decent tank unit
It does okay damage vs other Giant Units
It can produce some "chaff"
It can do well vs small units
can prevent enemy "damage cards" with shield
Fortress however 100% depends on good positioning.
I think the main concern is that with poor Positioning a lot of Units can destroy a Fortress
Steelballs
Stormcallers
Sniper
Melting Points
Overlords
but with good Positioning a Fortress can win vs all of them.
3 Fortress can even win decisive vs 2 Melting Points and both stay alive if positioned correctly with enough chaff around them or good angles
And Vulcan + Fire upgrade + attack upgrade vs a Fortress is pretty unfair
Thats 400 + 250 + 500 ofc it will do well vs 400 unupgraded Fortress ?
if you compare that 1v1 you must go Shield + range for the Fortress
with haste module and overload its really funny
Today's patch notes:
"A new Tech for Fortress [Rocket Punch] will be added."
Sounds very enticing, maybe a close range AOE stomp effect?
can you link ?
i didnt find this in the patch notes on front page
EDIT: ah its not in patch notes ... its in future plans for next update
