Nerf Fangs (or: How2use)
Or boost them or leave them as they are.

Sorry for the cheap clickbait, anyone got some advice how to use them, especially as a starting unit?

Right now I am stuck using them like I would crawlers, just without the tech that makes crawlers fun.

Thanks!

Some advice I got from a video:
Range upgrade and later shields from units for them to sit under

Additionally, they are more suited to be a second line, arriving after your quick units engaged the enemy AoE units.
Also, I had more success as I let their shield upgrade rest a bit, but that might be confirmation bias.

Inspired by my little rant, eh? :)

Fangs need their shield upgrade to be any good.

You can't use them like Crawlers because they are so damn slow. But if you use them (with shields) to block Marksmen, Phoenix etc, the slow speed might be of an advantage. Generally, they are the Crawler equivalent for a slow but steady approach of ranged units. Meatshields that don't rush. But unlike Crawlers don't expect them to kill anything.

I have to admit, though, that I haven't experimented much with them. Maybe I should. We still don't lose combat power when we lose, so what :)

Yeah :D

Sounds like it's more an issues with my playstyle, then. As I can't keep up a consistent front later on I mainly depend on timing my tower destructions better than my enemy.

Crawlers are great for that (for me, anyway) as the high model count and quick speed slows down the enemies attack, but guess playing around more should let me use the fangs properly.

late game they are very useful for tanking big hits with shield upgrade - like countering exploding rhino while you use ranged units to kill it

I had a really fun Fang game just yesterday. I had speed 17 Fangs with Assault Fang, Mechanical Rage and Speed Specialist. Speed 20 if taking extra speed from center for the round. Opponent had longer range stuff so speed was pretty relevant.

Fangs had shield tech but I didn't have time for Armor-Piercing because game ended. Together with the early levels they got, they would've been real space marines. I had Overlord giving them Photon Emission.

Must keep unit investments diverse because things like Vulcan could hit the board, though.

Fangs are mainly model tanks and support units.

fangs can be used for cheap AA options and need to be placed in a ray they will be useful. I almost always get the upgrade for fangs that reduce their range but buff their offense and move speed then buff their range further than the base with their ability if I plan on spamming them. If fangs get countered you're not losing out on much compared to say, a mustang and are valuable units when it comes to be fodder.
