What's the current counter to fortresses?
Hi all, I have been off for some time and trying to get back into the game. I'm struggling with fortresses right now. In earlier versions, if I saw a fortress with shields, I would have countered with stormcallers. Since the introduction of the anti-missle turret, I'm not quite sure what to play against shielded fortress with fangs or crawlers.

steel balls, melting damage is just to good against big units.

balls are utter garbage fortesses one shot each ball and if they get punch they wipe out entire packs.

Melter is the only reliable counter to forts (and obviously air sort of as it is conditional due to AA barrage). Punch was a very poor design choice to add to forts you made a short range tankiest unit in the game one of the best damage dealers as well. Also forts and melters should never have been given tech that spawns chaff as their only weakness was being able to focus fire them which is hard to do when they spew chaff out every 13 seconds.

just get more balls, or don't let them get shot.

For the early game phase, charged shot phoenix will quickly destroy fortresses.

Counter the AA ability of fortress with with EMP if need be, but usually a few levels or a shield upgrade is all that's needed to protect your air force from AA missile volleys.

Lategame would just use melting points/overlords.

MP is the only reliable solution. Balls with range could work, but its unreliable at best.

overlord with ground cannons will pretty much beat any large ground unit even melting points.

fort dies quite quck to marksman and phoenixes as well just mater of lvl them up
balls are good vs fortress if they have mechanical division gives them time to stack up dmg
mp melts forts

What are you talking about, Steelballs are great against shielded Fortresses because the shield allows them to lock on from distance. Fortresses can one-shot unupgraded Balls, so if you want to buy them later as a counter, use the tower ability to buy them at Level 2. Also, as always, units don't exist in a vacuum, the "trick" is always to distract the right units at the right time with other, less worthy targets. It's not just picking unit X to counter unity Y and expecting the game to turn instantly.
As long as players only focus on the units they buy but not on the placement, timing of upgrades and tower abilities etc. they will always lose no matter what
