You don't need those units to survive, you need to kill the rhino. Chances are, you already have balls as most players do in most games anyway and if not just unlock, upgrade range, put down cheap fodder in front of them. Balls with range are also outside of the rhinos explosion range FYI so if the rhino fails to kill the fodder then it dies. At that point he would have to invest in a distraction to make the rhino stick.
. . . melts and balls do infinite damage no matter the HP regen. They just need enough time to ramp up the damage to exceed the HP regen and at the time it does that the death will be swift.
This here^
A bit of emp on one of several units (on Marks always good, storm, sledges, Wasps can work in a pinch) shut them down hard. Make them easy meat for any nearby hacker or ball
emp snipers/phoenix 1 unit will be enough (if clear shot is given)
emp will disable final blitz even if op have photon coat it should live long enough to emp kick in, or for hakers do their job
then some chaff to stall - cravlers with acid armor (if not placed anywhere bad)
balls or mp are very good option
snipers will kill if given number time or lvl up
overlors with cannon gives good dmg and with mothership it will produce more wasp for chaff killing
1 rhino will not put too much problems and if op make more hakers will be there to save you just wait and place them correctly.

Rhino is literally unplayable without it.
A rhino has high DPS and can buff it further. Why would a level 3 rhino be losing to a level 1 fortress 😂😂😂😂😂
I swear the vast majority of the advice you give is flat out wrong 🤣
Flanks should always be protected regardless. A sentry or unit of mustang/fangs is pretty standard and delays the rhinos enough on the first turn that you can have hackers ready for them next time. A hacker on each flank, with some chaff in front will make the flanking rhino play untenable, and most players sell them at that point since it costs so much to climb out of that hole.
I’ve never seen an opponent invest even more into flanking rhinos when they get countered so hard by fangs and hackers. But if that happens, steel balls behind the fangs will let your hacker focus the rhino down without much issue. Overlords also work really well at this task instead of balls.
