What exactly does "auto-battler" mean?
I'm not familiar with the genre.

I'll give him that if you are only looking at the differentiation turn-based/not turn-based as limitation to RTS or TBS, he'd be right, since turn-based games can be "simultaneous" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timekeeping_in_games#Turn-based) as well.

However, since the only differentiation between RTS and TBS seems to be if players do their actions at the same time, it seems like Mechabellum can be a RTS. In other words, Mechabellum could very well be a "real time turn based strategy game" :b

Does that really sound like mechabellum to you? And no this isnt an rts i never said so, but it isnt a tbs either. And to be completely honest it has more in common with rts, than with tbs.
Game Theory (the actually theory, not the YT channel) calls what Mechabellum is a "Static Game" where the definition is "a game where each player chooses their action without knowledge of the actions chosen by other players."

This conversation took an unfortunate turn from informative and friendly to pedantic jackwagonry rather quickly.

It's possible for a game like this to have surface-level similarities to RTS while employing markedly different mechanics. Those things are not mutually exclusive.

I was asking because I'm familiar with RTS but was not familiar with the term "auto-battler," thus the question. People politely responded with helpful information, which I appreciate.

Thanks. I thought I saw players controlling units during the battles but I must have been mistaken. One of the reviews called it "RTS without the micro" so I guess I assumed there was at least some control.

people often click units in battle to see opponent upgrades !
if you click on an enemy unit in battle you can see all its stats.
you can also click at units of enemy in planning phase but only on the units from the previous rounds.
So if he has new units people can only see them in the battle phase and therefore click on them to get all information

Since you cant influence your troops during battle its best to allready plan your next round by checking all enemy units/upgrades and stats during battle
therefore lots of clicking

Okay I have enough of you just casually insulting people. So lets look at definitions, according to you mechabellum is a TBS, a turn based strategy game.
The definition for that is: A turn-based strategy (TBS) game is a strategy game (usually some type of wargame, especially a strategic-level wargame) where players take turns when playing. This is distinguished from real-time strategy (RTS), in which all players play simultaneously.

Do you really think that fits mechabellum? If you think about it for one second, you will notice that in mechabellum all the turn and fights are done at the same time and not after one another. A classic example for a TBS would be Fire Emblem, or HoM&M but not mechabellum.
So stop being so insulting when you have no idea what you are talking about.

I understand what you are trying to say but you are kinda wrong ;)

HoMM introduced simultanous turns in later years and currently all HoMM3 matches in competetive scene are played with simultanous turns.
Its still 0% rts though

Mechabellum is neither RTS nor a pure turn based game
its much closer to a turn based game though

The core of rts is that influencing your units movement in real time while your opponent also influences the movement of his units in real time matters.
