Remaster is easier than the original?
I can't help but feel like this game has been made a LOT easier than the original was. I've been playing through on hard difficulty and I seem to remember normal difficulty having a lot harder enemies placed, like a shade being put near the end of volcano which has now been replaced with 2 hunters, some of the enemy bikers having their weapons changed to less powerful ones for whatever reason, less or even no mines at all being placed in spots that had them like in the end of the volcano level there were purge mines to stop you just speeding through to the end or inside the generator tunnel on federal bank and even a longer time limit on the nuclear reactor level.

The main question is why though? The game has an easy difficulty if you want to die less, why hamper the difficulty on the harder modes despite the fact they are called HARDER difficulties for a reason. My main guess would be the fact choosing your biker actually makes a difference in this version but that would probably be even more reason to make the game harder, not easier, since it would add more strategy to picking a specific biker for the right level rather than just blasting through the whole thing with a tanky or speedy character and not really having a point in the middle-ground characters since the game has been rebalanced so you're taking less damage anyway so why not just take extra speed so it matters less or just take extra shields and be able to just tank every shot?

Yeah I noticed this too. I distinctly remember different enemy patterns in some places. Like where the shade spawns in Volcano, they give you a gravgon in that room which I always thought was kinda like "hey use this to kill the shade" but now it's just there for no reason. Pretty sure there was a levitank in Volcano too, but it has also been removed, as well as purge mines in the final escape tunnel.

Would be nice to have an option to toggle classic enemy and item placements.

I also noticed those homing missile tanks fire new overpowered homing missiles that you can't shoot down rather than the slow orange solaris making some sections a lot more annoying to deal with.

Lol how long ago did you play this game? Chances are it seems easier cause you're older and a better gamer now.

I still have the original to this day and it's definitely harder

This is a bad thing? I like some challenge, but nothing that locks up progress with unfair difficulty. I'm all for balancing an old game's difficulty spikes.

If you're stuck turn it down

Man, if the remastered version is easier when I get shredded by bounty hunters on the total insanity or w/e, I can only imagine what the original PC version was like.

The original PC version supposedly had to be patched to make it easier but I never played with this patch and it was fine

I mean it seems like even with Rex Hardy, the guy I unlocked so far with the highest shield rating, a single bullet shot will take off 1/4 of your health. Speaking of, for some reason he was called "Trucker" in the N64 version, and if I remember right all the ships were largely the same, except for Foetoid and Clark being faster.

The difficulties only modify enemy damage and health so it depends on that, and on the higher difficulties being as fast as possible is flat out better than being slow and tanky because you get shredded so fast

I didn't think of it that way. But when you first come across cerbero, there's a chance he'll ambush you in that little tunnel, which greatly limits the movement you can make.

Its indeed easier and the enemy layout has been altered, then again I only had the playsation version, which was hard as nails

the new homing missile tank is really op. Also new enemy placement makes no sense to me

That tank was there before but it fired regular orange homing missiles you could shoot down. I have no idea why they added this new missile type and why they don't let you shoot it down.

I had the same or maybe it was just the demo... it's been so long ago... I know for a FACT this game was all hyped in the OPM though. ^_^

Damn I was literally two seconds way from hitting the purchase button..., but I want the same hard levels as the original. Not a candied down one, although I assume there may of been a slight difference from comp to PS1 anyway. I certainly do not want it any easier though. I am older now... I want to go back and end them rightly!!!
