N64 music (again)...
So after probing in a thread about the n64 music being in the game, I bought it, immediately heard the track I wanted the most, and was golden. Then playing a bit, I realized I completely missed the real issue I had: all the tracks are here but they're what I assume to be the PC or PSX versions (some sound the same, but others have a lot of extra sounds in them).

I've listened to all the tracks in the music folder (each is properly named, kudos for that), so I know there's only one version of each in the game. I'm sure others like these versions, but honestly some soound obnoxious to me to the point I want to turn the music off. It would be reeeeally nice if this game had an n64 version option like Turok 2 HD did, and also the ability to change the track on the fly like in the original game. I know at least some of you out there gotta feel the same way.

And, yea...if a dev sees this (likely given the board traffic)...if possible...acquisition of said versions would be necessary I assume...can it happen?

Forsaken is a rare example of a game where the 64 version has superior music to the versions with Red Book quality audio.

I also find the non-64 versions are just distracting, like they threw in noises to go for that turn of the millennium avante-garde feel that has aged like milk.

Exactly, thanks you put it perfectly.

The music tracks are just .ogg files in a directory, you COULD replace them with n64 versions but that runs into the problem that the n64 version of the game only had 7 music tracks besides the title screen theme. You'd need to leave some of the music in or put in repeats.

would it matter if someone like my self has the orgional pc disk still ? would you want me to rip certain tracks from that disk ?

Honestly, for me anyway, the extra tracks could stay as long as the songs that were on n64 replace the current versions (and not even all of them, as for instance "Cyclotron" sounds the same in this). Yea I've also done this for music I've used in Brutal Doom, something I'll consider as well (if I get the ambition :D )

Of course, that doesn't fix the lack of track selection in-game...

I've only ever seen Turok on an N64, only finding out fairly recently that it even had PC versions, and listening to them side by side the N64 soundtrack is clearly better, so it made sense for me that the remaster included the option.
Conversely Forsaken was the latest and greatest in a traditionally PC based genre, supporting the latest video cards and online multiplayer, the soundtrack was created by a group in the UK and was popular enough that it was sold seperately on CD.
Unlike Turok i can totally see why this remaster would focus on its original PC release, despite using the PS1 crosshair for some reason, more options are better obviously but i can see why the N64 soundtrack wasn't included.

The N64 soundtrack does seem to play on the bonus levels based off the n64 version, so there's that at least. Personally I think both versions of the soundtrack are pretty good, though given the only version I played till I got this version was the n64 release I'm super curious now why "The dead system" was given such a massive change on the n64

It sonuds absolutely nothing like the original track, yet because of it's use in the intro and ending on the n64 it kinda was the bit of the soundtrack that stuck with me the most. Weird how that works.

I don't understand, you said "more options are better" but you can see why the N64 soundtrack wasn't included? What's your reasoning? If you think focusing on the PC version was the right call, fine, but why not include an option for alternate n64 soundtrack like in Turok 2 HD? Doesn't hurt anything, only question should be if they're ABLE to do that, not whether or not they should.

I'm not a fan of N64, but I agree that it should have a switching option between PC and N64 music.

The Nubia track which sounded like N64 quality was unbearable to hear. Replacing it with the PC version (track 11, it's untitled I think) makes it more enjoyable to play imo. But yeah, if only they were more considerate about it, make it switchable and be done with it. What's gonna hurt? flipplin' 20 MB more of music?
