Changing settings crashes game (tip provided)

If you change any of the video settings using the controller the game silent quits. But if you use the mouse it does not crash as much (but still mostly does)
Im okay to use the mouse to change and get lucky but if i was couch gaming i wouldnt be able to change any settings without a crash. Thought i would mention it for those who want to use big picture mode.

Game sits on 'restarting renderer'

Linux: Ubuntu MATE 64bit 19.04
