Well, I feel you're being a little unfair here. You say the author appears to hate her because she has died in all of the arcs so far, even in those cases where she is just one of over 1,000 to die the same way, as is the case in "Tatarigoroshi-hen"? I guess he hates most of the cast, then. 😆 You also seem to have conveniently forgotten "Himatsubushi-hen", where none of the main cast dies, because it's a prequel to those scenarios (though, to be fair, it's a rather short arc). Other than that, yeah, she definitely has her share of hardships she doesn't deserve.
But so have others. You mentioned Satoko, who has a pretty broken family. There's also Rena, who we learn in this arc has some severe mental issues, not helped by having a b*tch of a mother who abandoned her father to marry some more wealthy man and tore the family apart. Shion was exiled by her horrible grandmother just for being an unwanted twin (ironic that it was actually the other one they intended to do this to, not that it makes it any better for either of them), and her own crush just disappeared with barely a trace one day (it's not to justify her actions in "Watanagashi-hen" and "Meakashi-hen", but by this time, it should be clear there's something at work driving various characters insane).
Yeah, well, that's his failing. And how did that work out for him? If you didn't get it in "Watanagashi-hen", then "Meakashi-hen" should have made it pretty clear. Sounds like karmic retribution, if you ask me.
I feel like Rena's story Isn't as bad as everyone else's. She even got the best story out of all 8 IMO. The best moments, the coolest moments and the best conclusions, keiichi saving her for example. Mion seems the least flawed out of everyone especially now that I know she never does anything bad in any of the worlds that I can remember. Ch8 spoilers Rika says as much that she doesn't have it in her and Hinamizawa syndrome never effects her.
Shion is kind of a b*tch too, manipulating Keiichi to hurt Mion having her process the doll order for them. Making the tough tomboy mafia girl cry is next level. I still think Mion has it really bad despite being a good person but Satoko and Rika probably have it worse.
Now I'm just waiting and hoping for the extra content that's coming, since the epilogue was kind of lacking. I didn't know there would be more after chapter 8 buuut Rei and ch8 spoilers I guess?
I joked in ch8 that the helicopter would crash killing all of them. turns out something equally ridiculous happens in the first story of rei? I'll still play it and probably still enjoy it.
First, the name Ryukishi07 breaks down as follows: "ryūkishi" 竜騎士 means "dragon knight", probably referring to the class in Final Fantasy. "07" is goroawase, a kind of Japanese wordplay where numbers and letters stand for words; 0 can be read as "re" or "rei", and 7 as "na", so "rena" or "reina", though in this case it probably refers to Lenna Tycoon from FF5, whose father is a dragon rider.
Rena's surname, Ryūgu 竜宮, means "dragon palace", so there's another connection.
