I hate to leave a negative review, but I feel like I have to.

If you haven't ever played fancy pants, get this game. If you have, read on:

I feel like the developer made a few design mistakes that ended up killing the game. Granted, if this was my first time playing Fancy Pants I'd probably be slobbering all over this; But that's not the case.
Below are the pros and cons of Super Fancy Pants Adventure compared to previous games in the series.

Improved combat.
Combat is now much smoother and deeper than in previous installments.
Smoother movement.
Believe it or not, the dev actually managed to make movement feel even better. The addition of the fountain pen wallrides is kickass.
Soundtrack.
I know this is a staple of the series but I had to mention it again because it rocks.

Worse enemies.
After the first few levels, all enemies are replaced with ink monsters. The only way to kill them is to use the fountain pen. While the combat certainly has improved, I didn't enjoy being forced to use it. Plus, having to stop and fight using normal pen attacks really takes away from the fun of slinding, rolling and jumping on enemies. Defeating previous enemies seamlessly merged combat and freerunning; Now, these are seperate things.
Short
Three hours? Yea, I'd say the game is pretty short.
Not challenging.
Remember all those collectibles, challenge rooms, golf minigames etc. from world 3? Yeah, those are gone. Except for one (1) challenge room per level. Big whoop. There isn't even a squiggle counter anymore.
Shallower freerunning.
While it is smoother, freerunning has been stripped down and simplified. Why though? You can't direct your walljumps or do that little vertical wallrun thing you could do in world 3. This doesn't make things easier, mind you; Only takes away a bit of control from the player. Pretty pointless.
Linear levels.
The levels aren't these huge, open vistas you can get lost in while searching for collectibles anymore; Rather, they are A to B linear with small divergions from the main path, that usually lead to the challenge door.

Well, that about does it. I love this series and I love this game but I feel like I need to do this to try and urge the dev to correct his course. Brad. Come on dude, I love you. Fix this.

The game is overall great when it comes to gameplay, you’re going to be running, jumping, sliding, wall jumping, pen surfing, and fighting enemies as you traverse through "50+ levels" of fun. Controlling "Fancy pants man" has never felt so great, and while I do love how fluid and great the game feels, I just cannot recommend this game in its current state.

(Warning: I’m going to be referring to the console game: "Fancy Pants Adventures" a lot in this review)

Pros

+Controls; very smooth and easy to control

+Combat; although it simple, it’s very satisfying

+Parkour; running, jumping, and sliding all flow together perfectly (Con: why would you take out the direction/height you could wall jump off???)

+Animation and Movement; looks and feels amazing!

+Upgrading you character; adds an extra sense of progression to the game


Cons

-56 levels; some levels actually last 2 seconds while other's usually last 5-10 minutes, honestly they feel more like screens, and it feels very deceptive that the dev(s) called some two second screens "levels". The console version and even the flash versions are perfect examples of what a level should be.

-Enemies; at the first 20 minutes of the game you get so see a large variety of different enemies, but later on all you fight are ink blobs which are not at all difficult to defeat and are frankly boring to fight after a while. You also can’t slide into the ink enemies (making the sliding mechanic feel useless). In the console game, you can battle pirates, ninjas, frogs, crabs, spiders, rats, and more! But here, you’re fighting the same ink enemies throughout the game? (Side note: there are only 4 different types of ink enemies here).

-Level design; compared to "Fancy Pants Adventures", the level design in this game feels very lazy. While in the last game you’re going through a swamp, downtown, a beach, or a cave (and many other places). In this game you’re just running along one color (either purple, orange, red, or green) for a large duration of it. The only place that actually looked different (in a good way) was the tree pirate village.

-Difficulty; The game is way too easy, collecting points refill your health bar way too much and enemies do too little damage when they hit you. It is literally impossible to die in this game, I only died once and that was because I had to purposely jump off a cliff almost 10 times or more just so I can see the death animation. The bad part is that you can also upgrade your health, making the game feel like a chore to beat since there is no danger that can harm you.

-Customization; only 20 pants and hats to collect which is almost nothing compared to the Console version of almost hundreds of items to change on your character including your weapon, pants, and head gear. The amount of customization here is just underwhelming.

-Exploration; One of the things I loved about the console version was how you could take your time and explore the level you’re in to find hidden levels because of how the levels were designed, and while there are hidden levels/challenges here, there isn't much exploring here to do. Unlike the console version, your just running though levels like it was nothing. You’re not really rewarded as much as you were in the last game for exploring, like 100% levels

-The Ending; not going to spoil anything, but the ending left me saying "that was it???".
I really hope the dev(s) are not expecting another $10 for another 2 hours of content...

-Duration of the Game; It defiantly did not last long at all, I spent x10 more time in the console game than in this game. I spent about 5 hours in this game but in reality, this game should take about 2 hours to beat and 3 hours to complete the game fully. There is almost no replayability here unlike the console game, which is the main reason why I really dislike this game.

-Overall content; going to compare it to the console version here again :), the game falls short when it comes to content. The game doesn’t last long to beat, it doesn’t have that many challenges, and it overall just gets boring near the end of the game (which is really bad since it only lasts 2 hours). In "Super Fancy Pants Adventures" you had Bonus levels, Golf, Time Trials, Trick Arenas, King of the Hill tournaments, and HD remastered versions of the flash game (World 1 and 2). Yet here all you receive is a short game and small challenge levels with little difficulty.


Conclusion

This game DEFINATLY does not deserve the name "Super" Fancy Pants Adventure, the only thing this game improved upon was the controls, combat, and animation. Content is very lackluster, little to no difficulty here, no replayability, it was just overall a disappointment from the last game. The developer did state that he will be updating this game and adding new/more challenges and even multiplayer (I was going to put no multiplayer as a con but it will be added later on) and maybe some new game modes, but I doubt it will reach the worth of the regular price it’s asking for. I would not recommend this game for $10 at all.

Now I wouldn't disregard this game altogether, the game is fun, just not $10 worth of fun.
Get this on sale if you like, maybe for $5, but otherwise it’s a no from me.

(Side note: Paid $5 for a "Fancy Key" from the developers site that promised me extra content or something for future fancy pants games like this one on steam: http://www.bornegames.com/fancy-keys/ . Haven't received anything yet. Hopefully I will receive something in the future I guess, but here's some advice to the dev -if you need money for funding you game, try Kickstarter and make promises that you "may" actually be able to keep-)

(Update 11/7/17): Turns out a new beta just dropped and added the W1 Remix to the game and Multiplayer, while both new features are still rusty atm, I’m starting to think this game is worthy of being recommended soon (Maybe)

One of the best games but was on a road trip tried to play it on my laptop only to discover it has extra DRM so can't be played offline !!!! Like come on!

Update: Publisher has said the DRM will be removed in a future update this review will be changed to positive once that occurs

Super Fancy Pants Adventure is a Flash based platformer/brawler featuring hand drawn art and animation. The objective is to guide the stick figure with a pencil around a hand drawn art themed series of platformer levels.

I cannot tell a lie, when I noticed this was made with Flash I assumed I was going to have a completely terrible time with it, and I was surprised to see how fluid the animation and platformer handling in this game is. I didn't think Flash was capable of that, so the developers went far beyond most amateurs with the effort that went in there. Of course, smooth and pleasant animation and gameplay handling is critical for any platformer, so at least the bare minimum there was met, which puts this head and shoulders above most Flash games, dare say, most amateur developed games. Unfortunately getting one thing right does not create a masterpiece.

From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.

There's no options to change the resolution for the game or customise the graphics settings. There's no way for gamers to ensure this is running at the native resolution of their displays... there's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. There's no way for gamers to try improve the low quality graphics.

The game features extremely lazy, minimalist hand drawn "art", of the type you normally expect to see in low effort Flash/browser games (which this is) and mobile apps. Considering this is being evaluated as a PC game, having the graphics phoned in like this isn't going to result in a high quality, visually impressive game that PC gamers are used to seeing.

The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers.

Comically, the game was written in Flash (I wasn't making that up). Talk about not using the right tools for the job. Might as well try to bake a cake with a screwdriver. The extremely poor choice of game engine here is a major contributing factor to the defects with the game.

On Steam, this is an eye watering $10 USD (for a Flash game!!!), but the developers let you play this free elsewhere... so what, we're supposed to pay these guys $10 USD for polluting Steam with Adobe Flash games? That's right guys, if you're using Steam, developers think you're a sucker and they're trying to scam you out of $10 for a free game. Just who do they think we are?

Online Stalking and Harrassment

The developer has started stalking me, delivering personal attacks and is attempting to publicly cyberbully and intimidate me by posting hitpiece videos and articles. Why? Because I wrote an honest and frank assessment about an objectively bad and failed product. It's an objective failure rejected by the majority of gamers, confirmed by SteamDB figures for the failed game, and for the other reasons I supplied in my accurate review.

Certainly, the hitpieces the stalker/developer here has linked up are false and misleading (for example, I've given positive reviews to 2D indie games in the past, but the "developer" here chooses to lie about that), but cyberbullies don't care about facts, they just want to intimidate and attack those for providing the truths the developer can't emotionally accept. This unhinged, unstable and harmful behavior from the developer is utterly unacceptable, and is a chilling attempt to silence the truth.


I will not be intimidated or silenced by stalkers and bullies.

edit: i say that, becuase for its price it can be finished in the time that i have played it for, i always liked the fancy pants stories for its long story game, while this one works more on mini levels, which i think are very broken, the platforms are very annoyingly angled.

this is just my opinion, no need to tell me to kill my self.

I just beat the game in 1.1 hours. Before we start, I just want to say I'm a huge fan of the previous games and especially the one on Xbox. Let's talk about the things the game advertises on the store page.

-So many levels! - 56 brand new levels of parkour platforming

There is a total of about 8 "worlds" and each of them is divided up into like 6 rooms. None of the art really changes throughout the worlds and they are super short. To me it felt like there was 8 levels. It's like they consider every checkpoint a level. Some of the "levels" literally fit on one screen.

-Collections! - Over 20 pants and hats to collect in brand new challenge stages

The last game let you collect hats, pants, and swords. There were 141 total items iirc. "Over 20!" wow that is really underwhelming. I didn't really feel incentivised to even collect them. I did a few challenge stages and then just avoided them the rest of the game.

-Incredible Hand-drawn Style - Frame-by-frame animated worlds, enemies, and friends

The animations for fancy pants man were pretty good however the general enviorment art was incredibly lazy. Every level is just one or two colors (watch the trailer again) with plenty of reused assets throughout the game. Also, the main enemy was literally a blob, which I feel was only picked because it's so damn easy to animate. They also stripped down some of fancy pants moves which I feel could have just been to do less animating. It's sad that "hand drawn" is becoming an excuse for just not doing that much.

-Hack-and-slash - Wield your mighty ink pen to take down new threats!

Not much to say here. The combat was really bland you just tap attack over and over. Even the boss fights were super bland: you just press attack at a different time then usual. However, I will say the Xbox game also had this issue. It tends to just be easier to skip enimes throughout the whole game since you can literally jump over anyone.

-New Moves! - Take control of Fancy Pants man with brand new combos and moves

So there is an upgrade shop where you can buy 3 different sword moves (one of which was a default in the last game.) They are completley unneccesary and I actually beat the game before I was able to afford any of them. They don't help, it feels like they only exist to give you a false sense of progression.

Secret Challenge Stages - Scattered throughout the world are secret doors to incredibly challenging bonus stages, awarding awesome prizes

Like I mentioned earlier, these are just so you can find pants. I started avoiding them pretty early on since they weren't fun.

-60fps gameplay - Perfectly smooth running for a perfectly smooth platformer

Other miscallaneous issues
-Overall, just bad platforming. Sometimes the camera couldn't keep up very well, causing you to jump off a cliff. Lots of poorly telegraphed jumps or platforms that would move unexpectedly. The same color platform could move up or left and it cause a lot of dumb deaths. There is one room where you go bottom to top, but if you mess up you just fall lto the bottom instead of dying. It's really annoying. Lots of stuff like that, plus a few bad hitboxes on walls, cause you to miss easy jumps.

-They completley ruined walljumping. You no longer choose what direction you jump off the wall. The tutorial says they did it because it is "easier" but it just gives you less control over the character and makes cheap deaths. How is it easier to NOT let me control where I go? This game doesn't let a good player be good.

-No multiplayer ;/

Literally the game is worse then the old one that you can play for free online, AND you have to pay $10 to play this. If we are comparing them, this one has 60 fps and controller support. the online one has actual levels with actual art, 141 items, more then 10 lines of dialouge, and a ton more.

I mean where is all the charm?? The old games had all those little jokes in the background and tons of things to do in every level. The old house has the litrtle animated celine fan and fish and pictures and stuff. This new house is literally empty. NOTHING. White walls.

-Where is the swimming???

-Awkward soundtrack with really awkward transitions

Anyway, the best way to play would be on an Xbox 360, but 2nd best goes to playing the free online one. This game was underwhelming and not worth a single dollar

Real REAL juicy, but well short. Also some of the mechanics clash. No replay value really.
Compared to FPA, which is only available on Console and Mobile, there's just so much less.
Also the cliffhanger ending, really?
