Crash To Main Menu After Tutorial Stage
I checked around this forum for a work-around and there doesn't seem to be one. I also checked the pinned Bugs/Feedback/Suggetions post and saw this:

-Game says "couldn't load save file" and returns to main menu

This keeps happening when I go to leave the tutorial stage, so I literally cannot progress til this is fixed. Any ETA on when a fix will be coming? I really REALLY want to play this game again in all of its new beauty.

In the title you say 'crash' but the text description rather says it returns to main menu ?
So is this a crash or 'just' a return ?

If it is not a crash, can you send the games logfile (Red_Faction_Guerrilla_Re-Mars-tered.log, next to games .exe) to bugs@kaikogames.com ?
I can't promise this is enough already, might need more diagnostics.

Well if it stops the game abruptly and you cannot continue where it stopped, then I would consider that a crash.

But if returning to menu when the game stops for whatever reason is not considered a crash, then I guess I will send that info to that email address.

EDIT: Email sent.

Ok, thank you for the logfile.
Turns out, the game compresses data, finds out the data doesn't fit into a savegame and hard-quits at that point.
Please note this is the original games code, nothing we created.

Now - I have no immediate idea how to resolve this. We need to look at what is going on data wise as this is a new save I imagine and stuff like that should never happen.

Unfortunately this means it will take a while.
I add a bit of log output to the function so with the next build we get more info. Sorry for that :(

im also dealing with this save file error then jump to main menu after tuturial stage. My guess was it was related to the way windows permissions have changed from original release.

So far though the game is running greally reat at 1440p on my 1080 and hexcore i7.

*xbox one controller has to be on before launching game or wont be detected.

*4k 60hz not available until set to full screen exclusive.

Works now. Not sure i fit was because i relaunched the game or because i had put the game into run as admin mode.

F:\Steam\steamapps\common\Red Faction Guerrilla Re-MARS-tered

rfg.exe

right click properties, compatbility run as admin.

This is crazy ??? The game uses Steam sdk write save file functions that write to steams own folder, how should that not be able to write ?!? Really nothing we can do there...

Steam itself can have issues when its installed to something other then the c: drive. I and others have had to put the steam client into admin mode as well because it would regularly get file access errors applying patches after download.

That background, I wouldnt be surprised if the common denomonator of us having this issue is we have our client installed other then to the C: drive.

Here are some examples of what i was referring to:

My game was installed in the default directory for Windows 10, and I think Windows 10 in general is the problem with most games as I've seen lately. It's a total nazi when it comes to certain program priviledges. Triple A companies like Blizzard have all of the permissions pre-set through the launcher etc, but older or modded games it often blocks any kind of file writing to your system. Anti-virus for sure has zero effect on how it runs things too, I have completely uninstalled my AV and disabled every type of security measure before and it still blocks games unless you run as admin. Unless this happens on Windows 8 for some of you, I'm leaning towards the latter.

Oh, I see. Now, there is no installer at all for this game as it should not need any. So we might have to put some vanilla windows 10 pc into the office to see how steam behaves there. Grrr.

However you look at it, it's the system used by the majority of players, so it should be the base for testing:

You're right and I am not complaining about player's choice. But about steam simply not working as promised.
