How to use old mods on remastered.
I found out how to edit the old mods to work on this version when using the mod manager (found HERE[www.factionfiles.com]. Once you have the manager extracted, you will see a folder named "mods" where you save your mods to. Open any mod folder and there will be a modinfo.xml. Edit it using any text software and use the replace tool to change every entry of build\pc\cache to data. Next, go into the data folder and rename "table.vpp_pc" to "table.vpp_pc.bak" (thanks to God Emperor High King CTO_7 for figuring this step out). Now open the mod manager and activate any mod as normal. You can find mod files on the same webpage as the manager. Have fun!

WARNING: This doesn't mean every mod will instantly work perfectly. There may be other issues.

Are there really mods that aren't just cheats (like always green alert)?

I did look into that, so some old mods are working?

The file names/structure seemed the same as the old ones(vpk).

Better building physics.

Better building physics.
Which would count as cheating because it makes it easier to destroy a lot of buildings making some challenges not as they were intended (faster and eaisier)

Can also make it harder...

Thanks Ryft, this worked perfectly for my simple mod.

@Lanar Drexel
Make sure you point the mod manager to the right directory. By default, it'll search for the old RFG folder.

It should work if you put the mod manager directly in the games install folder. The run game button didn't work for me either but they mods are still activated if you run the game through Steam.

I tried one mod.. the one that turns your assault rifle bullets into singularity bombs. It worked, but it was also supposed to remove rifles from the EDF... which it didn't do; meaning I got my ass blown sky high :steamfacepalm:
Anyone got a physics mod to work? Aside from getting 3D to work, that's probably my number one thing

None work for me

There may be some files that are located in different places compared to old Red Faction Guerilla. I'm no expert. I just figured this path change out from tinkering around.

EDIT: I think I found out what is wrong with a few other mods. Some of the files are named slightly differently. For example if you look under the Reconstructor mods xml file under the "Edit file" section, it looks for misc.vpp. Well in the remastered version, it's called misc.vpp_pc. Changing this in the xml file SHOULD fix the issue.

EDIT AGAIN: Nvm if you add the _pc it will just throw an error when you try to activate. I guess some mods just won't work until someone figures out what has changed in the files.

Do the Mods that come with the RFG Mod Manager work with Re-Mars-tered? Also, to change every entry of build\pc\cache to data, is it "build\pc\data", or just "data"? Help appreciated :)

It's just data.

It's just data.

I tried to activate the "Free Upgrades" Mod. I edited/changed the associated xml file. When I clicked "Activate Mod(s)" in Mod Manager, I get error: Error while activating mod 'Free Upgrades': System Exception: Unable to extract unsupported file 'misc.vpp_pc'.

Anyone get this error and know what to do?

Yeah apparantly if you did what I said before (by changing the filename to add the _pc), it will throw that error. I guess it autodetects the file without adding the _pc so you don't to change it. I'm guessing some of the mods just won't work with the new game until they are adjusted.

So the step that's missing is making sure the game doesn't load "table.vpp_pc" in data. By doing the instructions in this post and ALSO renaming "table.vpp_pc" to "table.vpp_pc.bak" the mod manager will be able to install mods and they should work. I got free upgrades and no startup videos working but havn't yet managed to get the reconstructor. I gave SP Building Collapse a try but it doesn't seem to be functioning even though the files were changed correctly in misc.vpp_pc. The old unpacking and repacking orginally made by gibbed still work aswell.
