Super aggressive enemies kill the fun for anyone else?
I'm curious if it's just me but i absolutely hate the enemies in this game.

I don't remember having this much trouble with the original years ago but maybe i've gone soft.

I'm trying to have fun, blowing stuff up but i can't because i have instant spawning enemies all around me. There's no cover, no pause to their attack, you can barely tell them apart from the background or allies since they are all brown-red colored, they all have good accuracy and see me from long range.

Trying to kill them all uses up all my ammo and doesn't seem to be worth it because others spawn to replace them right away.

I thought Just Cause enemies were bad but this is on another level of frustration.

Its kind of designed like that. You're supposed to use Guerrilla tactics, hence the name, hit fast and hard and get the hell out of there. But yeah i know what you mean, I like to sometimes just slowly and methodically pick apart buildings.

They should have gave us a mode similar to Wrecking Crew but without a time limit.

Unfortunately (for you), that's kind of the point. You are one man (a guerrilla) going up against a literal army of well-armed, well-funded soldiers who have thousands upon thousands of bodies to throw at you. You can plan your attack by stealthily planting charges before you open fire, but as soon as the bullets start flying, you need to GTFO ASAP. If you want a (slightly) easier time, work on increasing Morale in a sector before you go all-out destroying EDF buildings, so at least you'll have a couple NPC guerrillas with you to kill some enemies or (more likely) draw their fire long enough for you to get the job done.

Yeah, that's a good point about guerilla tactics but you'd think you'd have a second to breathe after you kill some guards. From everything i've attacked so far, it seems that they spawn as fast as i can kill them. It seems absurd to me.

It's like i'm not given much to be sneaky and tactical either, this ain't hitman to go around under cover.

I haven't had a single issue with this, not this time around at least. I know on harder difficulties the "big guns" get brought out a bit earlier, but as long as you have a smart arsenal you can hold your own for a long time by using cover (while it exists), taking down enemies, never exposing yourself with less than half health, and using vehicles to get out quickly. If you're absolutely sure you won't last another second, get to a vehicle and get to a safehouse. I've survived a good number of red alerts using this pattern.

Rocket launchers are an obvious help for vehicles that are giving you trouble, but the Arc Welder is very effective at clearing out a vehicle for you to escape in.

As others have said, the alternative would be a boring sandbox that leaves you unchallenged-- you're not much of a guerrilla fighter if you never have to hide.

Red Faction: Guerrilla was always like this. The game even tells you to use hit-and-run tactics in the Handbook tutorial. Embrace the challenge or lower the difficulty.

Get the Arc Welder. Seriously. Upgrade that sucker as much as possible. That will help with the mobs. Also will help with hijacking vehicles (even tanks).

Thanks for the replies. I'm playing it wrong then. I must have been spoiled by the open world Ubisoft games and the like where the enemies pose no challange.

I'll keep on trying.

Internalization. Good job. NOT sarcasm.

I don't care if "that's the point", it's bad game design, the whole point of the game in my opinion is destruction and that's kind of hard to do with the constant respawning enemies and the low ammo capacity then to top it all off you got those helicopters.

I mean jesus it really wouldn't be THAT big of a deal if the enemies didn't constatly respawn, that's just plain stupid.

I honestly recommend playing on Casual. There's no achievement for higher difficulties so there's no harm in lowering it and while I get that you're supposed to guerrilla style attacks, it can still be frustrating, especially early on.

Bad game design would be an empty world where you're never attacked. If you think you can just run up to every enemy with a hammer instead of actually having a backup/escape plan, well, you're just doing it wrong... and you should be prepared to have a miserable time in every single open world game to date.

Should the EDF not care that you're wrecking their ♥♥♥♥? That would be incredibly lame.

You can actually stealth your way into a lot of bases. Use crouch, avoid EDF line of sight, and take out lone soldiers with the sledgehammer.
Eze Jul 5, 2018 @ 2:19pm
Yeah, it is frustrating when the mission involves assaulting a fort. I just want a buffed shotgun.

Yeah, i think that's what i'll do. It seems like the "right way" to play is the less fun way. Like you have all these cool toys but the enemy is doing their hardest to keep you from them.

Granted, it depends on each person's idea of fun. I can see plenty around here wouldn't enjoy an easier time with the enemies.

Not the guy you replied to but i have to say, i played plenty of open world games where you have the concept of wanted levels and can't think of a game that has more relentless enemies in recent years. It also doesn't help that you don't really have tools to help escape, only to fight back. No grappling hook like in Just Cause or hacking skills like in Watch Dogs for example.
Space Coward Jul 5, 2018 @ 3:27pm
You have a rocket launcher, arc welder, and a big-ass sledgehammer, not to mention all the alternative weapons that also do a great job in clearing enemies out of your way. Vehicles are incredibly useful getaway tools due to their high health.
