and yeah, a lot of invisible junk makes driving the flat surface into a bumping rodeo which is exactly what is needed when you're on that race against time activity.
Watching old gameplay videos and playing the old version of the game myself the vehicles handle alot better.
like, you input the control and the vehicle will almost 'compound' your inputs, or buffer them or something and spit out an approximation a third-of-a-second later
not like the handling was super good in the original, however
Sure, the handling was never great in the original game, but i don't remember it being that bad.
The smaller cars like basic 2-Door EDF Patrol or the Buggy go fast and turn tight, great for getting around and escaping the EDF fast.
Bigger cars like EDF 4-Door Transport or Guerilla Vans are good for barging through barriers, rescues, and general road based get aways.
Now the huge vehicles like EDF Troop Transports or Dump Trucks I hardly ever use because they move so slow and turn like a total potatoe so I find their extra armor just isn't worth how much you're going to get shot up.
Of course tanks and walkers go without explanation, control doesn't matter for these since you can destroy anything that gets in your way anyways.
I noticed it during one of the Transporter missions, the one to drive an emergency truck from the Badlands base to Dust (Pro time: 2:25). No matter what, even with an almost perfect run, I couldn't beat the Pro time for this one (I managed to do 2:25:01
Watching a couple of videos from the original on YT, we can clearly see how to truck behaves much better. The folks were able to beat the Pro time by almost 2s even with small mistakes. The issues on the Remastered version are:
- The truck bounces and jumps all around, even on very small bumps. On the original it goes much smoother;
- On higher jumps we can see how the truck "nosedives" to the ground, like all weight is on the front of the truck. On the original the truck maintains a straight line easier on high jumps;
- The truck hits almost anything with its front bumper: with the ground on high jumps, with small rocks and bumps on the road, and even with the big bridge on Badlands. If I go full speed on that bridge, it destroys the small ramp at the entrance just like ramming a building, instead of going up the ramp.
I tried the Vaxis Faster Vehicle Speed mod from Nexus Mods. It should increase cars' weight and speed. For this truck specifically I didn't notice any difference on speed but the weight seems better. Now it bounces less and it drives more similar to the original. I managed to do 2:23.

how did you actually install the mod, the code suggests that
<Replace File="data/misc.vpp/vehicles.xtbl" NewFile="vehicles.xtbl" />
the vehicles.xtbl needs to be patched into the misc.vpp "archive" (well the Steam version only has the file misc.vpp_pc). But there seems to be no info on how to do that. Any help appreciated.
