Useless workers
How do I make my rope makers do their job? There are plenty of fibres in stock, and rope is highest priority, but my rope makers are off collecting raw stone which is very low priority. My tribe leader has lots of will (I spent hours finding the right tribe with the right leader) so why won't the tribes people do what I tell 'em?

This is a matter of configured priorities and group vacants. Try to close positions in other groups.

The Tribe Leader will not make people go do a better job or force them to do whatever you deem to be first priority, this is your job as the interactive leader, by using policies, group sizes, group tasks, and group priorities correctly for the current circumstances on your tribe.

You must work with whatever limits the Tribe Leader has set, and the Tribe Leader will based on own feelings adjust policies as you go along. For instance if they are starving they will deny you adding rationing to the tribe because since they are hungry, they will try to make sure the tribe don't starve as well.

There is an entire balancing act in order to get things going smoothly in any tribe, and it will vary between the tribes based on i.e. environment and members grades of traits.

Thanks, I think I get it. It's a shame I can't set a localised clearing task inside a gathering group.

I think I read somewhere that the leader shouldn't have a low Will trait, but what effect does it have on their behaviour?

Yes, you probably read it in my Guide here on Steam :)

If you have a Tribe Leader with negative (red) grades of the trait Will and/or Fitness, you will end up having earlier and larger restrictions on your policies than you would with a Leader that has no negative grades of these traits. Remember, the Tribe Leader will, based on own feelings, adjust the policy restrictions accordingly, so when they feel overworked they will add extra restrictions on i.e labour age and/or work hours.
These restrictions becomes more difficult to work around as they grow older due to that they will much earlier max out their restrictions to what we start with on default with a Leader that has no negative grades, meaning you can have almost halved work force long term at that point, this can create a lot of issues for your balance of workforce versus resource income, versus environment(logistics), versus resource usage. (Logistics play a huge part in your tribes efficiency and workforce use, more and more as the years go by in same locality).

Negative grades of the trait "Will", makes people not want to work normal work hours most the time, so they will complain that they are over-worked.
If their consequential Will is above 100/100 you might lose these people as time goes by unless you accommodate their demands. Never accommodate Trait induced unrest when your work hours are default :)

If your Tribe Leader has negative grades of the trait Fitness, they actually cannot manage to work the normal work hours (12-default), so they will also complain, and in time reduce your work hours whether you like it or not, to default. Tribe Leader will never go below default start conditions, for now.
If the consequential Will of Fitness-reduced grades in your other tribe members are below 100/100 they could end up loitering in camp in the end, having so high unrest that they are refusing to work, but this is more prevalent if you up the work hours than if you leave them at default (12), they will however ultimately leave, or become sick and die, so leave work hours at default as much as you can.

The higher consequential Will your people have, the sooner they will react to policies and also timing for when they will leave the tribe.
The threshold of when the complainers will leave is based on degree of grade of the Trait (there are 3 negative and 3 positive) So a degree 3 negative will leave sooner and start complaining earlier than for example a member with degree 1.
