Also don't bother catching BooBoo. The only fams you need in Zone 1 are Bob, Shrump and Mer'lan.

By the way, this guy is awesome :)
You should watch all his Bit Heroes videos to familiarize yourself with all of the game's nuances.
Also as I said, you need to farm for Bob, Shrump and Mer'lan in zone 1. When you get to zone 2, Grampz is your next target. You need these four guys to craft/fuse into Shrampz (Shrump + Grampz) and "Bor'lan (Mer'lan + Bob).
As for your question regarding caps on capture rate, there really isn't one (I think).
"Let's clear up some confusion on how the rate bonuses are calculated.
You have a personal bonus that you can look up in your character info, and a dungeon/raid bonus.
Your personal bonus includes: daily bonuses, runes, and boosts. These bonuses are added together for a total personal bonus. To check what this is, go into your character inventory, press "info", and scroll down and you will see lots of stats including your personal bonuses.
The dungeon bonus is shown on whatever difficulty of dungeon or raid you choose to play.
Your personal bonus and dungeon bonus are actually multiplied for a total overall capture rate bonus. Let's work out an example below.
Let's say you decide to go hunting for Grimz on capture day. Let's assume you have no capture rate runes and no boosts. Because of capture day, your personal bonus is +50%, or 1.5x. You decide to play a heroic dungeon, so your dungeon capture bonus is +200%, or 3x. Your total capture rate bonus is therefor 1.5x * 3x = 4.5x or +350% Capture Rate.
For Grimz, an epic familiar, you have a base 1.5% capture chance. With your bonuses, this becomes 1.5 * 4.5 = 6.75% Capture Chance on each Grimz killed. In fraction form this is 6.75/100, or ~1/15. This means, on average, you can expect one out of every 15 Grimz to offer you a chance to join you.
Note that statistically in the case of a 1/15 chance to have a Grimz offer, this does not mean that you can definitely expect to have 1+ offers in a run of 15 Grimz kills. It's a little weird, but you only get about a 65% chance of having an offer in 15 Grimz kills. In general, when you have a 1/number chance to win something, trying -insert same number- amount of times to win will only work ~63%-65% of the time depending how large that number is. This is why certain randomized lotteries can have a 1/1,000,000 advertised chance to win $2,000,000 after taxes at $1 per ticket, and still be able to screw you in the end. Otherwise any joe schmo with $1,000,000 capital could just buy a million tickets and guarantee himself a win for $2,000,000 when in reality it's only a 63% chance of winning with that method."
