As for how to get started, I have struggled with money making, but, seem to have been able to come up with a steady income for my park and what follows this will be a "short" list of the main pillars of my park:
-Minimalism: as fun as it is don't decorate to much it seems to get too high cost too quickly, also get as few staff as you possibly can.
-Maximize guest count without spending to much money: best way to do this seems to be getting high star rating animals, and making enclosures with high scores.
- Get the logistics sorted: for example I have 1 mixed food farm, 1 dung/compost heap, 1 food warehouse, 1 products warehouse, a staff center, fossil depot, research center and hatchery.
-Shops: get some shops, not two many, I started out with 8 shops (half nutrition, half shopping), oh and use vending machines they're like food stands, but, you don't need cashiers for them (they produce less money though).
-Bonus: I don't know why, but, when I build my park and put a statue with some other decor around it and lots of donation boxes in the entrance, it made me a lot of money. I'm guessing it has to do with the beauty mechanic, but, I do not mess with that too much due to the cost of decorations.
Hope this helps.
