Non-violent and Family friendly?
Hi there, I'm a curator for Non-violent Entertainment, and this game has caught my attention. If I may ask a couple of questions, would you classify this as a non-violent game? And is there anything else that might affect if it is family friendly or not? I try to keep my followers well informed on the content of the games I list, so they can make an informed decision to buy the game. I find it's been effective to ask questions as a first step to investigating a game I come across.

Depends what you see as "violent". First of, I'm no developer, so I can only tell you about what I've learned and know of the planned features in the full release of the game. In the Alpha build there is no violence whatsoever.

In the full game animals can attack and kill eachother (as in nature) and you will have to keep both them and your human guests safe and happy. The full game has not been released yet, but I think the violence (animals attacking eachother or the human guests) will probably be similar to Jurassic Park Evolution. This is a game mechanic, as it's up to you as the parkbuilder to make sure that does not happen.

If people dislike seeing (digital renditions) of extinct animals hurting eachother or people, then they might have to look for something else. It is however possible to play the game without anything getting hurt (with the sandbox settings) or by playing as a good parkbuilder and manager.

Appreciate your response!
If a game does technically contain a little bit of violence, it doesn't necessarily rule it out for a review from my group, especially if it's minor and not the focus of the game. I try to take into account different factors. If I do make a review, I would have to make sure to include all of these details and mention them in the review, and leave it for my followers to decide for themselves.

No problem. This game is foremost a Zoo/Parkbuilder first, so most of it will be about building and designing. Next up are the animals, and it's all about preserving and nurturing the animals and keeping them and the guests of your park happy.

Also you get to learn about extinct animal life, which is a plus in my book. Learning about nature is always a good thing. Nigel Marven is also onboard with it, so that counts for something too.

I'm guessing it might be more realistic than jwe, so carnivores might attack herbivores if they're starving or their pen is too small, but not any other times than that.

Yes, that does appear to be the case for this game, though the animals are kept in different enclosures. Realism, such as carnivorous animals hunting herbivorous animals is something I could potentially accept. It might technically be violence, but it's also part of nature and every-day life, so I'd mention in the review what it contains, and leave it up to my followers to decide for themselves; I imagine most of them would not have a problem with this sort of thing, but I want them to make an informed decision nonetheless.

I think some of my followers would find the educational aspect appealing, especially for parents who want more educational content for their children. I know I personally find extinct animal life to be fascinating.

After doing my usual surface research, I've decided I would be willing to test and review this game (including a full review once the game is released), assuming the developers are happy to send us a copy of the game. My reviews are from a niche perspective that you are not likely to find elsewhere on Steam. I also aim to be honest with my reviews, however any criticisms are constructive and not demeaning. We also like to support indie developers, which this gives us the opportunity to do.

Hmm... so, "no free copy" = "no review", or am I interpreting this sentence the wrong way?

As much as I would like to buy all of the best games myself to review for my followers, I simply do not have the funds to do so. Perhaps I will be in a better situation some day in the future in that regard, and in which case not reviewing a game now doesn't necessarily mean no review ever. I understand that the developers will want to be picky with who they give out copies to to get reviews, so I respect the decision either way. What I can say is that my group is something different, and not at all the typical curator, and thus I provide a more niche perspective. Maybe this will be something that the developers would want, or maybe not. What I'm saying is the option is there if that is what the developers would be happy with.

You'd need a lot more than 113 followers to get a free copy of a game to review. Most places require at least 10,000.

That is fair enough, as my group is still a bit of a fledgling (though I hope it will keep on growing). I appreciate the consideration, and respect your decision.

I certainly hope it will be. I don't want to sit there imagining what it would be like to have a Jurassic park game while playing one.

Naturally, if a predator is placed with another dinosaur, it would make sense for the predator to hunt it. That kind of thing is what we see in nature, so I would merely have to mention it in the review, so my followers are aware of it.
It appears that I'll have to wait and save up for it, being more of an underdog. It looks good, though, from what I can see.

Can I get a free "review" copy of the game too devs?
PreRex Jul 2, 2021 @ 4:59pm
Uhh.. Why exactly does the game need to be non violent?
