Animal List REDUX (Updated Version 2020-2025)
Well... never thought I would popup in a youtube video of all places, but one of my older lists was shown in the latest video update on PK by the youtuber Swrve. Made me spit out my pizza when I was watching it this evening, followed by hearty laugh! XD

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cj8yX1v-gGU

Cheers mate!

Here is the link to the old thread and list that was shown in the video:

https://steamcommunity.com/app/666150/discussions/0/2534848209933970745/#c2534848209934078952

It did trigger me to make another updated version based on all the current known info we have from the development team of PK.

Once again, I've put all the animals in alphabetical order, separating the dinosaurs from the mammals.

This time I've also listed how many skin variants there will be of each animal and how many different confirmed alternate species. I'll try to update it along the way when we have new updates and such.

Also Swrve has made a new video, this time with all 50 species profiles.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jAoMfEWjoEk&t=2s

Keep in mind it's more than 40 minutes long and he makes some little mistakes here and there. For example the icons beneath each alt. skin means a different species or integument (scales or feathers). For all the different species types see list below.

If we know for certain that a dinosaur species had feathers it will only have feather type of skins. If it only had scales, it would have only have those. If it could be either way, you can choose both options for some species.

==========================================

EDIT 2020-10-8: As was mentioned by Byron (Nano) the development team has decided to change the roster of 50 animals at early access release to 22 animals. This means we will get less animals at the start but they will be however of an higher quality. After early access they will add the other animals postlaunch bit by bit (so we will still get all if not most of them shortly afterwards).

EDIT 2022-05-26: As Early Access is now here, more and more animals will be added with each new update. I will add them to the confirmed Early Access animals as they are announced.

At the official website you can take a look at the current known roster.

Small disclaimer, in the "older" list in the video, there are some animals mentioned which have not been officially confirmed by the development team as of yet (with the exception of some, like Spinosaurus aegyptiacus).

They are just things I've heard through the grapevine, or just based on rumors and old Kickstarter artwork. So take all of those with a "big grain of salt" ;)

Also, some animals might get another change up or other species added (for example the recently described Allosaurus jimmadseni comes to mind and the other species of Stegosaurus as mentioned above). This is of course great news, because it means we actually get MORE than 50 animals in the early access release of the game (if you count each species as a seperate animal)!

Just keep in mind, nothing is set in stone (except for new fossil discoveries).

Thank you, Nederbeest. I'm sure many people would be pleased by your hard work.

Two notes:

One, I think I recalled using that old post of yours in answering someone else's question quite some time ago.

Two, I can't believe Swrve actually acknowledges you. Well done...!

Ah, you mean this one?

Yeah, I remember that one as well :)

Don't know if that's the real case, but it was amusing to suddenly see one of my earlier posts in a video when you don't expect it. A bit surreal but it did make me chuckle (and choke on my slice of pizza) XD

I do know that he roams around on this here forum (seen a post of him not too long ago actually about the PAX West Demo).

I'm glad to see that people and youtubers (*) find the list helpful.

(*) And yes... I know youtubers are also people... well... at least most of them are (kinda). :P

Also a shoutout to SkaarsmashKikou and Gojiratheking106, as they too were featured in the video, plus thewolfofcomedy as the OP :)
It wouldn't have been possible without these guys.

I had a power cut during the editing process and lost where I found the dinosaur list and Couldn't find it! Thanks for the help in that video though!

I was not aware that you had ownership over it (:-]

But anyway... as the above REDUX list is based on all the confirmed early access animals, I've excluded Spinosaurus aegyptiacus (for now) because it's one of the planned animals after early access release (as is the case with Dimetrodon, Pteranodon, Elasmosaurus, Ichthyosaurus, Mosasaurus and several others). We have only an early design of it from the developers and no other information as of yet. I did mention it in my disclaimer though...

You can however still find it and others in the link of my old list (which is still on steam for anyone interested), which contains even more animals than listed in this REDUX version.

Please keep in mind that if an animal is not mentioned in my REDUX list, does not mean it will never be added to the game. And also keep in mind that I have no control over what will be added to the game as I'm no developer myself (as some people have asked me in the past).
Nederbeest Mar 19, 2020 @ 9:19am
Small edit to the list: It seems Stegosaurus stenops will remain the only Stegosaurus species for now.

If you were the developer, Nederbeest, your username would be quite different. It'd be gold with a star on it, like Nano's.

Correct, but that hasn't stopped people from asking me that in the past... Even sometimes for games unrelated to PK :)

Altough it might be possible for a developer to create a non golden account and roam the forums anonymous (and no that's not me XD).

But let's not go too far off-topic as this thread is about animal lists :)

Soooo... Apparantly the developers are contradicting themselves or we are getting both species, but according to the new devlog it's once again Paraceratherium bugtiense, while the species profile on the discord server states it's P. transouralicum.

Either we will get both, or one is correct while the other is not... In this case I've added both to the list just to be sure.

We get another Tyrannosaurus species confirmed for early access, namely the Asian species:

Tyrannosaurus bataar or as it also known, Tarbosaurus bataar !!!!

Both are added to the list. Tyrannosaurus rex will get three skins (each based on several types known from North America with slight facial variations, leatherhide for example is based on the "Sue" specimen), while the more sleeker T. bataar will sport a fashionable dewlap (*) to differentiate it from the others.

Nice suprise!:steamhappy:

(*) I think I read somewhere that some experts thought it had one, but I can't remember where... Maybe in "The Tyrannosaurus chronicles" by David Hone. Have to check that one, though.
