Spoilers: Discussion about the ending
Hello everyone!
I made this little post to talk with everyone about the ending, if you have not played the game yet please quit now as there will be many many spoilers ahead.

I would like to ask everyone here to tell me what they thought of the story and what exactly you think it's meaning is. It seems like the kind of story that everyone can make their own little definitions of.

This is what I think: Obviously the detective was some kind of monster in his earlier years. What I think is the case is that he's some kind of monster from another dimension who doesn't like to face his past.

Looking into the mirror would remind him of who he is and what he has done in the past (although unclear exactly what he has done), I assume that he once took part in similar acts like Lilly, killing people and... harvesting? them? (I really don't know what they meant by that part, it just screamed SPERM to me but thats probably not it, must be something like the seed of life I really dont know (which now i think of it is technically also SPERM (but thats probably still not it))).

What I believe is the case (as I stated earlier) is that he is a monster from another dimension, mirrors are often seen as a "Mirror to a different dimension" which could in theory symbolise this. This would also explain why he shot the mirror in order to kill Lilly (which I assumed he did). Why Lilly would also be scared of seeing her own reflection is unclear to me, she seems to want to be a monster so this makes me feel like my interpretations of the story have flaws/are wrong.

I would love to hear what you all think of the story and what you think it means!
pls no :dip:posting

I think mirror was showing the monsters ''true self'', the detective was saying he couldnt look into the mirror. But killing the monster with shooting the mirror creates a question in my head, was there a woman? Or was that the detective's inner monster. I dont need to get an answer to this, i just wonder if that open ended conclusion was their intention.

LOL nvm i checked the game's title again and i got my answer.

But do you think the title immediately refers to the woman being fake aswell? If so then that could mean that, yes the woman is infact not real and he made it up for some reason

You need to know more about the history of the monsters they are, succubus and incubus, succubus is a female monster from ancient biblical times who drains mens souls through sex and seduction, incubus is the male version.

I'm not entirely sure the whole meaning of the games story, or even the historical aspects, that's just a rough translation from myself, feel free to wiki both monsters.

But in my view, the female was real, I'm not the creator or writer and it'd be interesting to hear his take, but I believe both were real because of the purple dress and the fact she left fabric behind. Couldn't be his own monster unless he's a cross dresser. Plus, why is one an incubus and the other a succubus? I believe she was using him as sorts to settle down, use him as the harvester while she could just capitalize without doing anything else, but that's just my take on the story.
It is said that the mirror reflects your soul, it shows who you really are. Do you know Dorian Gray? His painting becomes the conduit of his Immortality his other self his true self, while he retains his youth and lethal wounds the painting absorbed it. But once the painting is destroyed he dies with it. I think it's the same concept. Usually Dorian is thought to be a vampire but he is not he is immune to even vampire's bite or any physical damage even disease. His Immortality stems from the painting a reflection one's soul.

@mattshaneworkman Definitely an interesting take on the story, it honestly does sound pretty much like the way it was intended. I'll do some research on this, it's really interesting. Then again @Fenris has a pretty good take on the story too which is very very interesting aswell. It's cool to see how many ways this story can be interpreted :D:

Yes it really does seem like the ending is trying to make us think one of two things, that they are both seperate monsters, or that she in fact was his own imagination or a reflection of himself.

But I have doubts on that, mainly because of the purple dress and fabric left behind, and the fact that both were categorized in the game as succubuss and incubus. Also the name lily, could be a loose interpretation of lilith, who was adams wife before eve, who was turned into a witch or demoness for betraying god.

Okay, my turn.
The first succubus in the Earth Lilith to be there, is a case to think about, makes sense because she wants to make her own family, contrary to the direction taken by Adam and Eve.

As he says to Lilly: My own ghost, come back to haunt me from the past.
He took pills, so what if he forgot or did not attack?

Missed a question that he found in the garbage can, that he chased the guys?
But I get the option she used.

Hi everyone !
I just finished the game and it was really cool ! (A bit more dynamic between quotes and scene should be greater ! But the simple design in B&W has a true charisma)

For me I think that this story can be different stories varing (varying ? not sure sorry) with different elements, I'm not sure that's very comprehensive, let me explain

Start element > main character behavior > aim of the last action (shot the mirror) > cause

Lilly isn't real
pills > take pills each time that Lilly appears > kill this possibly hallucination (many pills can do really realistic hallu for the user) > a kinda break in this head due to long use of pills and alcohol

Main character (he got a name ? let's call him MC) back to his natural state of mind
cigarettes found on the murder scene (and also the watch) > first deny (cigs aren't mine), then memory failure (with the watch) > follow his life of Incubus with Lilly > break the frontier between the "dull" boy (I tought to Shining when I read it ^^) and the monster

Lilly mindcontrols MC
"passion" smell and kiss > unconsciously fall in "love" > break the frontier (same above) > totally mindcontroled

The two last are the same ends but with one consciously and the other not.

MC got a paranoïak delirium that cause a schyzophrenic trip to chase himself (unconsciously), monsters are just a part of delirium to make it "possible" (deny), Lilly is probably true but isn't a monster, last scene will be the general breakdown of his mind
Add to this last theory, pills (maybe a neuro-treatment to slow down shcyzo effects), alcohol, docs in the garbage (I don't think that usual people can have this, specially in this decade ;) )

Ok that's all for me, I hope all it's clear (it's hard to speak a good foreign language), so after that I precise that I've played the game in english (so same words, it can really differs with translations), I didn't used all the elements of this game (like the fact that he already know magical stuff), but I think with 1 or 2 more elements we can find the true story :D
So whatever, it was a really short but really great game, respect for the devs !

This is just, Bright, but in a noir setting. Meaning a sort of fairy tale with fairy tale creatures set in the "modern" day. If you know what succubi and Incubi are, then it all falls into place. He is a literal incubus that has tried to suppress his darker urges and fit into modern society. She is a literal succubus, trying to cause hem to go feral.

It's actually pretty straight forward.
