Loot boxes sucks
I can not believe that the appearance of my character and his movements depend on my luck to open a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ box, horrible progression system, which is this ?, a test to include micro transactions in the sequels ?.

Sadly yes but with the blacklash other games such as NBA 2K18, Battlefront and Need for Speed have been receiving, hopefully companies might think twice about using loot boxes when not needed in these type of games.

And with every kiddy game on the phones using microtransactions and making serious money, my bet is we already lost.

I would agree, but with the way things are going for EA and Battlefront II, that's unlikely now.

Especially when they just lost 3 billion dollars in stock over this.

Publishers are going to be thinking twice on loot boxes and overly done micro-transactions

It's definitely their way of getting people ready for next year when it costs real money. I'm hoping that Disco Inferno is correct and that they'll change their minds with all that's happened lately.

Seems they intended to release this game with microtransactions monetization in mind but after the nba blacklash they just remove the option to buy those loot boxes with real money, oh well less one game to spend money on it

Fully agree, although it is my hope now that regulating agencies are looking at loot boxes critically after EA's Battlefront II fiasco that loot boxes will hopefully disappear as a game design mechanic going forward. I hate that crap in games, and its one of the big (but not the only) reasons I felt like MyCareer was utter crap in this year's WWE2K game.

It didn't/isn't stopping EA because of the dip in the stock. That will rise back up over time and in the mean time ,they've already gone ahead and set up UFC3 with the same setup with loot boxes. You need to use loot boxes to level your character up in that by earning just about everything that goes into a character (much like WWE 2k18 does now)

Unless loot boxes are deemed illegal ,or force games to be rated adults only, you won't see them going anywhere because these companies are still making too much money off of these loot boxes because there are so many people that are too.... stupid and will put literal thousands into them per game... Stupid reason to go into debt if you ask me.

Has anyone gotten duplicates when opening them? Or is the game at least generous enough to not do that?

As far as moves/attire go, I haven't, but you will get duplicate boosts (1+ time use items in RTG mode)

It's really hard to say if you get duplicates or not though, the vc you get out of some loot boxes might be in place of a duplicate move/piece of attire. It's hard to say really.
I swear that if they continue on the same path I stop buying the game, is not it enough to receive year after year a game with few improvements and with enough bugs of which some were present in previous games? In fact, this year I was not going to buy the game but buy it because for some reason in my country it was half price.

if they include Microtransactions in 2K19 it will be a "no buy".

the Lootbox stuff in 2K18 is bad enough as it is. I want to see this removed as well.

This is a common theme all over for gamers... unfortunately it's only a vocal minority that don't buy the games, most still do and a good chunk of those people will pay for the microtransactions. So in the end you're really only hurting yourself by not playing a game you want to.

Microtransactions will be a thing in WWE 2k19, they've already confirmed as much. Sadly this is the future of gaming because companies make a metric ♥♥♥♥ ton of money from it. Locking a portion of the game (or even the whole game) behind a paywall, basically forcing people to pay if they want to be able to compete... or grind for hundreds to thousands of hours to get everything.

As long as the offline game doesnt require pay to play I will probably buy the game, but I wont pre order it,just so that I can confirm facts about the game before I pay. I personally feel rather cheated that this years game was sold at not far off half price for the black friday sale less than 2 months after it was released.

yes you can get duplicates. Also it only gives you 500 vc back for each one.

See, I don't really mind the boxes? It's clearly a way to try and gate progression, and it could have been handled better, but there's also no real way you can just spend money to get VC to open boxes, so it's not quite as bad.

What my issue is, is the fact that if you make a new myplayer, with one of your two save slots, NOTHING you opened on your other guy counted. Makes no sense to me. VC is shared between save files and the only way to open these damn boxes is through VC. And mycareer mode does NOT give you enough boxes. I've heard playing road to glory gives you more? But playing online doesn't really sound all that fun to me.
