They didn't make KFC characters... does no one read the fine print in commercials? It's CLOTHING so you can make your own characters if you want to, not a full pre made character. Also like Void said, making 1 outfit does not equal making an entire mode that more and more people didn't care about. (I personally haven't touched it since 2k15 I think, I'm not a fan of just reliving past matches, I prefer a unique story and they gave up on that ages ago)
lmfao I wish I could play as mr ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sanders
But you can play as 30 different versions of Steve Austin as you try and complete achievements that constantly bug out so you get stuck in an endless repetitive loop!
I really liked the concept of the showcase but the execution was so poor and I would rather see those zots go to core gameplay.
I think last year showcase was only with DLC, so maybe it will still be announced later on.
They can have WWE network charge people monthly to relive and watch ancient matches. But they can't find even 1 story to tell in the showcase mode?! I dont think they needed to make the 2k16 Austin matches so scripted. Thats why its buggy they tried to control too much of the story. That doesn't mean they should get rid of the showcase.
You are asking for nuance from a company the broke the kick out system and didnt fix it until the next iteration of the game.
I would take every $$$ and man hour placed into a showcase mode and funnel it into fixing the gawd awful submission system.
Fingers crossed the submission system in 2K18 isnt a complete disaster.
I was hoping that by scrapping it last year it meant they would put that extra effort in being creative with the Universe mode, you know, the mode that offers the hook of replayability, but nah, they just scrapped it so they could have one less thing to worry about and left Universe mode broken and featureless.
Also screw my career and path of champions or whatever they're calling it. more shallow linear tripe that could have gone into creating storylines, cutscenes and features in the Universe mode.
Could have had a Universe mode with the ability to dip into the shoes of specific members of the roster and with a GM style mode which would be automated unless intervened by the player.
This would combine all aspects of features people want into one mode, makes perfect sense to me,everyones a winner.
Showcase mode is the mode that sells the game. Nobody buys the game for universe mode. 90% of the people want to replay historic matches. Is the same reason why people claim old games like WWE smackdown had good career modes. Is cause those were based on series of events that happened in a season, except you run it with your favorite char.
You may have had half an argument if you at least put MyCareer up against Universe mode as I know some people do like that.
Don't get me wrong, the showcase was fun to play through on the games.....for one play through.
No people don't praise the older games based on being able to relive historic moments, that's nonsense, they weren't historic at the time the games were released and people still enjoyed them even with a pretty lacklustre roster.
The reason is because at that time expectations were lower and people mostly relied on quick fix enjoyment, especially multiplayer gaming.
So the fast paced arcade style fit better for a group of mates sat around having a laugh and of course these are good times to look back on.
Then the GM mode would give the single player a long term investment with lots of story arcs to play through and decisions to be made from a booking stance with the option to play your matches you set up and try to get your brand ahead of the competition be it human or cpu.
That, nostalgia, the fact some people prefer the faster paced arcade style over simulation and that the games had more features and quirks is the reason people praise the older games, otherwise what is to stop them enjoying playing Austin vs Rock in the new games?!
Your argument falls apart with one game, Legends of WrestleMania, it solely relied on what you claim to be the 'winning feature' of the games.
You have any sources on that?
Because showcaseless 2K17 sold 490k units in the first week alone.
