I played a few matches on RTG mode tonight but that isn't going to be any good for making VC, i lost all the matches because the other guys were level 25 and 47! They have obviously been playing it a lot more than i have. It would be nice if it put me up against people of a similar level so i actually have a chance.
I've yet to hit anyone that constantly does roll ups as well either. You have to unlock all your moves and stuff, so you would need to put a LOT of time to unlock some of the better things like that.
Online in this game is only as good as your, and your opponents internet. I use bitmeter 2 and there is hardly any traffic coming and going while playing, so it doesn't need a super strong connection. Good ping is key for online and even with my crap net (I download at 600kb and upload at 50kb) I have no lag issues at all, just latency because I keep getting connected to people over seas for the most part.
Online is free to play, it's pointless to take someone's opinion on it because they do not have your internet. The only way to truly know how it works is to play it and see. Not like you need to pony up extra cash to play online, this isn't console gaming after all lol. (the only thing I hate about consoles)
Levels mean nothing really. Once I got used to the latency (it still throws me off at times) I was able to beat level 40+ people when I was under level 5. All it means is that they've been playing online a lot, not necessarily that they're good. You just need to give it time and learn to play good with practice. (building up your stats helps immensely as well.) I'm, only a 65 overall currently and I can still hold my own most of the time, winning more often than I lose. As I said, you just need to practice to get better, and that won't happen putting the game on the easiest setting, doing 1-2 moves then pinning. (I'd personally quit the game before I did something so boring, wouldn't cheat either, no point in playing after you've earned everything through cheating)
Also have to wonder sometimes if the opponent is using a 99 ovr gained via cheat engine themselves. I faced one which was the laziest cas ever, literally just using the default template including the name superstar, and each move they did, even a punch took me down a bar just like a squash match does in single player. If it was their primary cas you'd like to think they'd put in more effort in the attire etc so it feels like one made for farming and why would you have a specific one for farming unless you were cheating with it but didn't want to cheat in your own mycareer.
I do agree with you that when you cheat then the game loses it's appeal, i find that with point and click adventures, as soon as i've looked at a walkthrough for one puzzle i lose interest in the game, but there's cheating to gain an advantage and cheating to get something you thought was included in the purchase to begin with, so i wouldn't completely rule it out for unlocking the rest of the roster, though i will wait until i've tired of the other modes first.
I can say this, leveling up in RTG gives you next to no attribute points. I'm level 16 and I've gained 1 ability point so far, so seeing anyone high makes me think they just stick mostly to RTG so their stats generally aren't super high either lol. You get most of your ability points through the my career story mode itself from what I can see.
I've seen the lazy "superstar" names as well. I think those people don't realize or care you can change stuff. You'll see that in a lot of games that have you make your own custom choices. DragonBall Xenoverse 1 and 2 have a lot of people that never change their name from "player," so you see that name quite often lol. (can't change it in that after you've created your fighter)
I can see why a lot of people use the default move set when starting out. I myself only changed my moves up last night. There are so few choices where everything is locked behind a virtual paywall (which shows me that this game originally had paid microtransactions in it before people got pissed off with how loot boxes destroyed NBA 2k18) Plus it takes forever to put moves on as well. I had made a CAW for the universe mode on day 1 of the games release, took me around 12 hours total to get everything just the way I wanted it. (The move set was about 2-3 hours of that) Because of that, I just didn't have it in me to do it all again with my career mode CAW, so I just left moves as default until I unlocked some stuff. (most of my moves are still locked sadly...
When it comes to unlocking all the wrestlers and arenas, I just use the "unlock everything" button. I don't count that as cheating since it's built into the game. I want all of them unlocked from day 1 because I record my universe mode for my youtube channel, and I don't need a chunk of the roster missing for that lol.
Have to say, this was the first year I actually used it...when I saw I was getting 600VC for a 5 star match and that 90% of the stuff in my career was locked I just said screw it and used it.
Also, what lootboxes in NBA2K18? Haven't seen any.
Microtransactions, not loot boxes. The game is basically pay to win. In order to build up just 1 player in the career mode of that game you would have to play somewhere around 200 games just for a decent character, while someone willing to throw several hundred dollars into the game gets a huge advantage right out the box. making the career mode in that game completely pay to win.
As far as this game, unlocking stuff is the only thing keeping me playing the career/RTG modes. Without having anything to strive towards, there is no point in playing in my opinion. Not only that, but straight up cheating to get an advantage over others in the online mode isn't fun for me. Quite frankly I find it sad that people will do this just to get an edge over others. Instead of pay to win, you're cheating to win, which is not really any better in my opinion.
Different story for the single player stuff, but the my career mode and road to glory modes are tied to the same character and covers both online and offline, so cheating for one, then playing in the other is pretty under handed when you get down to it.
