WOrth a play?
Hey gamer fam (and dev guy/s)

I am an experienced EA'er - in the sense of i know what i like (asnd expect) as an EA, however to those of you who have seen some of my other posts (about certain EA games) i admit i can be very outspkoen (and sometimes hostile) but that is only gamer agro on a game that either takes year of completion (not many updates often) or abandonnes the gamme completely (my *abandonnment limit is approx 6 months mininmum up to about 18 - what do i consider abandonnment? - no updates in said times)

OK now the real reason i am here

I am looking for a

- crafter?
- builder?
- civ management?
et al EA game, this seems to tick all the boxes, and by the store vid and screenies looks to be amazing.

BUT - How (impmented) is the features in this game? Is it currently/going to be sand box? Is there an actual end game yet (or in sight)? Roughly how long is play time in this game (if sandbox how long until its like *yeh thats my limit for today*)

ABOVE ALL the above aside... how enjoyable is the current state of the game? [yes i know EA games come with a lot of bugs... but thats the nature of testing] AND what i said in the opening paragraph... would you reccomend i personally buy it or wait?

Sorry for the essay and tyvm guys :)

Hey Barney, if your focus is on Crafting/Building and civ managment you won't have much fun with Hammerhelm. Yes you can build buildings, and yes you need dwarfs but you are not gonna do much more as order them to build . They even go out and get the ressources by themself.

There's only one building atm you can decorate, anything else is just in wich order you like to set your town up. It's an easy system that doesn't take up much of your time, so you can go out and do more quests ;-)

Hammerhelm is more of a RPG at the moment where the focus is on quests and character development with new and better armor and weapons. It's fully playable and you can have some hours of fun with the quests, but they get repetitive after a while. Cala will add more quests to the game but at the moment it's really more deveolping certain parts like the fighting system.

Hope this gives you a little inside information.

Last but not least. Even with it's flaws (like the repetitive quests) I LOVE the game. Cala is doing an awsome job as a developer, and if you are into RPGs give it a try ;-)

Definately worth it IMO. I am about 14 hours in now (after one restart once I figured out I had made a huge error in my building choice progression due to lack of resources). The game has definate goals which are best achieved in specific order to maximize your progress. These are some cookie crumbed for you by having pre-requisites. There is not much of a tutorial beyond the first few steps of the game, and the tutorial is limited in scope to building placement of your first two buildings and how to rotate them, plus assign roles to your workers.

You will find this game feels more polished than many EA games out there, but there are some graphical bugs which require exiting and restarting the game to fix (like poisoned fields quest leaving the poison effect visible after the quest completed, or an occaisonal bug with npc interaction which locks you up until you restart).

I have been really enjoying the game.. it hits on so many of my "wants": Questing, progression, exploration, combat, resource management, crafting, and yes, to a very minor extent decorating (personal housing).

Can you give me more info on that NPC bug that requires a restart? :)

I will if I can! It seems to have no rhyme or reason, but the one commonality is that the press T to talk to so and so comment remains overlaid on the window. As a non programmer I can only guess that this might be causing some sort of logic pathing conflict? It remains even when I physically move away from the NPC. I will try to recreate this later and post my findings in the bugs category.
