What Happened?
I will say first off I havnt played this but will probably buy it because I am a huge DnD nerd. Having said that- What has happened to the DnD brand in the computer gameing world? I remember a time where DnD = great games- Gold Box, Dark Sun, Balders Gate 1+2, Icewind dale, Torment, Neverwinters Nights 1+2 and perhaps my Favorite- Temple of Elemental Evil (horrible relese for that though..tons of Bugs!!). Now, it is a sad Neverwinter Nights MMO, Swords of the Coast legends and now this. What happened to just makeing a DnD game based on the rules in the game? I dont know about this one But the latter 2 were wierd altured rulesets that were just not very fun...pretty poor actually. Give us more Baldures gates, Neverwinters night (not that MMO garbage) TOEE, or even an updated Goldbox games... Is there anything on the horizon for DnD for people that want to play a computer version of the RPG on the computer? I know pathfinder (which I now actually prefere to DnD 5) has a promising looking game coming up . But I hear nothing for DnD. I will add maybe I am wrong about this game and it is what I am looking for but from what I am reading it is more of the same- You have to play one of four pregenerated charecters? Get the hell out of here..That is not DnD. Just venting I guess but the question stands- Is there any promising games coming out useing the DnD rules. Thanks.

This isn't supposed to be a D&D CRPG - this is a conversion of a board game based losely on D&D rules. I totally get if that's not what you're looking for but it's totally unfair to judge this game based compared against other games that it's not at all trying to be.

It's not a D&D System. It's based on the D&D Adventure System. They are two different things. The Adventure System has been around for a while now and IMHO works really well.

Did Dungeons and Dragons also have a gamemaster throwing stuns and afflictions on you WITH EVERY THROW OF THE DICE??

I know everything you are all saying. But my point still stands-What happened to the DnD brand in Computer gamming?. I decided to ask it here because there isnt any other games with even the DnD name in the title, So is there a REAL DnD game being made? There hasnt been a good DnD game since 2006,,,Before that every few years there was a great title released, now it is ...almost pure crap coming out with DnD name attached to it. I know this game is not really the RPG. But there is no where else to ask this question on these boards. Maybe somewhat misplaced but I still ask is there anything coming out for DnD? Thanks.

I think a lot of us want that, however developers fail time and time again, trying to appeal to casuals or they are afraid of scaring off those new to the system. However...when I do look at the games that do very well and, like Divinity original SIN 1 and 2, those systems are much more complex than what comes out and they did/are doing very well. Who knows....maybe one day they will get it...

D&D kind of struck out with 4th Edition and now I think they are focusing on rebuilding their name with traditional table top gaming. My guess is that they don't want to throw money at making large scope video games. Sword Coast Legends was a flop, and they probably make more off of Neverwinter with microtransactions. If you want throw back games to Baldur's Gate, I suggest checking out Pillars of Eternity and Tyranny. What I've played of the Pathfinder CRPG seemed good quality also so just wait up for that. Maybe in five years, D&D will be willing to risk another CRPG.

Games need to be careful adding "D n D" to their games, Sword Coast Legends did this and flopped, this looks a decent game though.
SCL flopped though because they said the game played around a particular set of rules and most players didnt like the fact that it didnt. (was a MP game)

Honestly I wasnt expecting a Baldurs gate or NWN when I bought this. I could tell by the trailer it was not that same playstyle. But those titles these day would have been 69 bucks. This was the cost of a lunch. Im having fun with it. Its easy to learn but hard to master. Keeps me entertained.

Thanks for the answers guys. As to the recomendations- I am playing Pillars 2nd time through as I posted originally...made me nastalgic and then I saw this game...and though..more of the same- Kind of a DnDish game set in that universe that isnt really DnD...sigh... So I replay NWN 1+2 the Modding community helps keep that up and Play the Circle of eight modifications to TOEE but really miss a good solid DnD dungeon crawl (or epic adventure) Divinity just felt...odd to me, I may go back and try to replay and will probably pick up the new one but there was something about it that just didnt jive with me. Am anxiously awaiting Pathfinder-King Maker! Anyway thanks for the replies. Heres hoping for the future Oh, and yes DnD made a HUGE mistake with 4e...dont know how they thought that kind of thing would go over? They are still paying for that. One good thing though- That unfortunate decision brought us Pathfinder!!
