PVE has never been balanced
For example, you can use:
Calyce - Very good stat scaling (DEX), PEN scaling for lategame. Con - low base ATK, low ASPD, weak spacebar. But her casts can be strong in lategame.
Ania - VERY tanky, scales of basically all the stats (but AGI is her main stat), 5 DR from counterattack, a lot of block, utility (Mortal Wound) to synergize with physical DPS in team. Con- weak spacebar, tonfa as main weap (gotta get fixed soon), not OP in terms of DPS (but still good). AGI is not as easy to abuse as STR (for example, Anis buff cant boost AGI).
Adelina with BF - An OP gamestarter for F2P players. +4 AR from buffs even without rings, stat scaling (AGI), in-built KD reduce...just look at what Destination gives on Lv15, thats hella amount of numbers! Con - falls off lategame due to low base stats.
Lynn - basically Scavenger of a poor man. She can scale OK into lategame, have both great spacebar damage (for a F2P char) and nice skill damage (especially on 3-hit-combo), STR as main scaling stat, movement skill... Con - Scavenger is still better due to massive IDEF, and her stance buff is very short, so she cant AFK for a long time.
Sariel - OP damage, non stat- greedy (scales with debuff level). Con- cube, debuff lv scaling (not about oneshots).
Utility is healthy overall- there`re viable debuffers and buffers ,both for solo and squad gameplay. Emilia can carry in many cases that even modern cash buffers cant. Utility chars are diverse, mostly useful and rarely replaced with cash versions (Moon replaced Bernelli, Cass is equal option to Lisa). But IMC promises to kill utility chars by limiting the buff\debuff score (as it was done with Squad buffs) and switching from squad utility to family\char utility.
I mean, even tho modern cash DPS trashed every older ones, there`re still options if you`re not into competetive boss DPS or don`t care about the time difference for clearing some missions (like oneshot boss with, or give a few casts in a minute) solo. In squads it`d be "Whoooa, why would you play Calyce if you can buy Meister Lorch???" anyway.
PvP is kinda healthy.It`s pure oneshot fiesta, in which the base stats of chars barely matter- any char can oneshot any other char with equal equip, or can`t scratch a char in way better equip. Of course, exceptions are still there, so it would be difficult to overgear Tiburon to oneshot, but still- you can have fun with a lof of chars as long as you equip them properly.

What do you thank about the martial artists? Back then it was possible to play a Gascon in pvp and it was enjoyable with the right setup, now with a lot of new characters having gap closers, I sense the meta cut the MMAs off. Also, most of them having the same “to go” stance (compendium) doesnt help a lot. Or not?
Other then that..
Compedium dominated a PVP a couple of years ago, but was NERFED HARD since then, so i think there`s barely a reason to invest to Compedium.
But if you take "MMA" a bit wider (basically "A char with martial weapon"), there`re a lot of options incoming.
Not only CoA \GCoA is viable (her utility is easy to use, and -DR debuff are always welcome), tho maybe not a strong DPS pick.
With incoming revamp of MMA weaps (Knuckle\Legguard\Tonfa will be united as "Martial Weapon"), Ania, G.Ania can also be used as MMA. And both are already viable.
Ciel\Loretta is hard to say for sure. I would say Loretta have a chance.
Sherry will also be indirectly buffed, as Tonfa have a higher base ATK.
