Because this game is too heavy on meta in PVE.
If you havent meta damage char in PVE, you better gives up PVE role. Even you have meta damage char, but without items, your char are still useless.
Unlike PVE, at least 50% character are available in PVP with decent gears. Like Nena, Caisse, Calyce, Ludin, etc
Useless char with strong items is better than meta char without items.
disregard the list, but do heed to the meta comments, those are true.
Know the basic meta rules, and a current 10-15 god-tier chars- and you`ll be fine anyway.
Use "Granado Espada Database Toolkit" (tool developed by me to parse database from the client with actual info, you can google it. I wont give the link, as i don`t want to mess with IMC), or already parsed database like ge. sytes .net .
Currently the meta is about either buff\debuff stacking or stat scaling. Mainly 2nd one.
Stat scaling is damage getting increased by the "stat" (STR|AGI|DEX|INT|HP) of the char. Usually the "Extra" stat is taken, so it only counts the difference between the "basic" stat and what your char actually have. For example, Meister Lorch have 85 DEX base. His job skill gives +5, Elite SoA earring gives +10, GMLAE gives +40. That makes Lorch 140 DEX char. His skills have either 1% normal ATK damage per 1 DEX or 2% skill ATK per 1 DEX, depending on the buff. So the "Extra" DEX would be 140-85=55 pts.
Many characters have such scaling, but not all of them worth playing, sadly. Even with all the scaling Marie recieved with last update, she can`t be used as a sole damage dealer...until you spend billions on her just to see her still losing to M.Lorch. But you can stick for Calyce or Lynn (as quest chars) and beat it to the lategame with them. It won`t be as easy as with Meister Lorch or Canna+Sage Sharon, but it`s possible for sure.
Buff\Debuff stacking is way more tricky. Same as stat scaling, it ranges between pure trash to OP tiers. For example, Sariel is still good in terms of boss killing.
Due to that fact PvP meta is way wider. Basically any char with high % and low cast\duration (aka animation time) skills can be viable. Some are more viable, some less, but overall i would say half of chars are good. Of course it`ll feel better with some of chars. But overall almost any char are useful in some situations.
PvP is way healthier than PvE.
