Invisible Monster

Was exploring in the northern area of the map until I started hearing some sort of constant female humming/singing/screaming. After a bit I saw this hazy invisible smoke shape coming towards me while the voice was growing louder. Shot it a couple times then resigned to death. It just approached, got a jumpscare image and heard something crack before I died and it took me to last save.

Is there a way to beat this or is it an avoid? Is this 'The Witch'? I have killed the beast and had taken a good slurp of the teleportation potion a few minutes before if that helps at all.
