Where/why is there no more bloody Options.txt file ?!
I can't start the game anymore due to resolution bug(had this one first time i tryed to run the game and solved by manually entering my resolution into the options.txt file)
Recently i had to do a fresh install(had to reformat hdd and do a clean OS install) and now im unable to find the options.txt to edit and start my game again !!
PS: honestly WTF devs why can't u give the option to set a game rez in the launcher like a sane person would instead of having the user chase around after ghost files to get hes game started(or at least if it has to be a config file put it in the games root directory so u can reach it easier)...

Well its not there for a fresh install... not sure if its generated on the first succesfull run or not(in wich case i'm boned as it can't successfully launch)
PS:as mentioned above this isn't my first time dealing with the issue but this time around there rly isn't an options.txt file for me to edit anymore

New OS install ?
Your antivirus may be preventing the game from writing anything to your documents folder to prevent ransomware. Check to make sure that you've whitelisted the program on your antivirus and try again.
Good Luck

The AV possibility is most likely, although it could also be that something is mis-reporting the resolution and then the driver is crashing at startup. Is there an error.log file in the folder listed above?

If you do need to create one by hand then creating a file with

RezX 1920
RezY 1080
Fullscreen 0

Should start you up in 1080p windowed which is pretty safe (you can of course change the resolution to values you know to be valid).

Cheers

Thx Pip that did the trick... looking back on it i can safely say it was probably some non admin access shenanigans that prevented the file to be created in the first place... no antivirus involvment whatsoever is to be suspected as it was purpously disabled by me at the game's install&first run...
PS: can barely wait for next months paycheck, its time for me to get the latest dlc and have some fun ;-)

Well Zod_UK what is there to say ?! should a game be trying to gain write access to anywhere that's not in its own root directory ?! ... i believe we all know the corect answer to that one don't we, the OS giving it the middle finger is quite a resonable action i'm afraid.

It is writing to /Documents/My Games.

Many games do. (e.g. Skyrim, Dishonoured, Age of Wonders 3 etc. etc.)

It is what that folder is for!

And it has been Microsoft best practice for user files for over a decade. Given most games are installed to protected folders (and most backups won't backup installed apps for space reasons) it makes a lot of sense.

AVs have started locking Documents to prevent against ransomware, which can only occur once the ransomware has gotten past the AV...

Cheers
