Affinity strengths and styles
I'm playing Civ BE a lot lately, but I can't properly wrap my head around what exactly the three affinities are built to be played like.

I'm fighting my way through deciding which of them i should use for a domination victory, but whenever I start with one I feel like they don't perfectly fit to my playing style..

As I've not found any place on the internet that lists up the affinity's playing styles and strengths, combat and economy wise, I wondered what you all think.
I'm not asking for which affinity is best, or for what kind of victory it is best, but for what they in themselves are good at and how they are meant to be played.

My observations are as followed so far:
Purity:
- Units are layed out to deal big damage by themselves, no matter the skills, but are slow
- They are meant to build tall empires, rather then wide ones.
- Their economy is farm and food based maybe? That's why I thought of tall empires.

Supremacy:
- Units are highly specialised and have the best skill combinations, but rely on being adjected to each other. Meaning they grow stronger the more they are.
- I personally don't see their economy benefits or empire build style

Harmony:
- Units are very skill full and hard to kill on their own, often drawing strength from being without other units around them and sitting in miasma. Meaning the fewer they are, the stronger the single units? And heavy reliance on miasma, so bad for attacking really :c
- Wide empires because that allows you to build more stem cells for your Harmony Victory?
- Don't see the economy benefits here either.

In each affinity I also have no idea with what kind of virtue they work well.
Nor do I really see which affinity fits best on which kind of terrain as in theory you can fully terraform the planet to your liking (given enough turns of corse)
What do you all think?
What playing style fits best to each affinity and why?
What was the most effective use for each affinity for you, and why?
What are the through-out-game benefits and strengths of each affinity? (I can look up the different number benefits myself, but that doesn't say anything about the actual playthrough of a game)
Which affinity do you chose for which style of game?

So far, it's mostly based on: look around and see which resources I actually have access to. It' a bit odd to go for Supremacy where there's no Firaxite anywhere near you but you have ample access to Floatstone, for instance.

I'd say that Supremacy is intended to go either way with tall or wide. Tall because of all the amazing science bonuses from Firaxite and Firaxite-powered buildings (complements stacked pop nicely), or wide because of the energy generation boosts and free roads/magrails at level 3.

Purity units have bonuses focused on defense and sieging. They also have two additional hover units: LEV Tank and LEV Destroyer. Both are very strong, but the LEV is quite slow. They also have two strategic resources to focus on for their special units: Titanium and Floatstone. Their economies are mostly focused on farms and terrascapes.

Supremacy units have bonuses focused on grouping together for a blitzkreig type of combat. They are not individually strong like the Harmony units... but they make up for it by using superior numbers. They are also very much science based as the Firaxite mine has quite a large boost in science production. Also, they get bonuses to using Nodes, which also provide science.

Harmony units have bonuses focused on fighting alone or in spread out groups. They also excel in fighting in Miasma. They have one of the most unique units in the Roctopus... essentially a mobile and reusable orbital weapon.
There is this general guide:

Personally, I think Purity is the best for domination, especially if done early before the AI spams cities. I base this on the ease of getting levels fast.

Still, I would like to see video on fully souped up LEV units v. Titans/Rocktopus v. Angel.
Anyone got that?

" see video on fully souped up LEV units v. Titans/Rocktopus v. Angel."

you mean a video where they determine which of those three units are the most powerfull? Like a duel fight for the best battle?

thanks for the guide Johnarhoades
But I read that already.

I was looking for why which affinity would be chosen and why.

Usually based on resource availability. If you're looking for a deeper answer, then that is what is confusing you. There isn't one.

If its not based on resources then it might be based on lucky random events or if you have a preferrred tech path you like to follow - otherwise its based almost entirely on resources.
