Resolution is in GraphicsSettings.ini
It's definitely there.
Is this some official forum rule that I've never heard of? It's not like i'm constantly spamming, it was one bump for one question. That being said, I tried to find that 'graphicssettings.ini file, and got zero results when I typed that in in the search bar in the Civ BE folder
If I could find the file I'm sure it would be a piece of cake, but I can't see it anywhere
One is in the Steamapps thingy, which are the installed, actual game files. Second is the part where your configuration, saves, mods, etc. reside. That one is in My Documents/My Games/Sid Meiers Civilization Beyond Earth.
That's also where you will find your .ini files.
On the bumping, that's in the forum rules sticky on this forum.
Italics added by me to indicate the rule in question.
There's a similar provision in the 2K-provided game-forum-specific rules in a pinned thread.
Ahhhh, gotcha, next time I'll just ask another question in order to try and get an answer for my first ;)
Now that we know where the files are (in My Documents/My Games/Sid Meiers Civilization Beyond Earth for Windows and $HOME/.local/share/aspyr-mediaSid... for linux), how do I make the custom resolution actually work?
I'm displaying on a Vizio 32" TV using a DVI-out adapter on an HDMI cable from my tower (my GTX560 card has a broken micro-HDMI port, natch) to the TV's HDMI-in, fairly old, and has (predictably) the worst possible of all linux gaming display issues other than no display at all:
OVERSCAN!!!
This Vizio TV has no ability to display 1:1 or 100% scan or anything like that, so I have to use the "underscan" feature of the Nvidia 331.113 driver to apply a 90 pixel underscan to the TV's overscan.
So far, so good. Now my 64bit Ubuntu 14.04 desktop (fresh install) displays everything properly.
HOWEVER:
Applying the custom resolution of my desktop AFTER applying the corrected overscan resolution (1740x978) to the graphics settings file referred to above, I get a VERY odd problem (which is replicating itself in EVERY Steam game I have!): The screen displays properly in fullscreen, with no cut off edges, but the mouse seems to be tracking about an inch or more ABOVE where the cursor actually appears on the screen.
Does anyone know how I can fix this? This also occurs in Portal 2, Left 4 Dead 2, and several other games I've tested. I don't want to have to go back to my monitor, because the TV is oh so much bigger.
Ideas, anyone? And no.... I am *not* going to fight with xrandr- been there, done that, never ever again.
Man, that's an insane problem, I wish I was more familiar with Linux to help you. I'm not even sure I properly understand why your TV doesn't simply display at 1080p
The fact that no buttons show up here. Is that a resolution issue I can resolve by going in the folder? I tried making it full screen in the options but it didnt change a thing.
All I can say is, do you have Windows 8? There's this feature that lets you split a monitor into 2 (I couldn't quite figure it out, but it's there). Either than that, check where Donald was talking about, but make sure to set Windowed beforehand ingame so you have an easier frame of reference to find the setting you need. Good luck!
The thread has already been resolved, and these are semi-related issues to changing the resolution to a custom one (and to answer your question, no, i'm sticking with windows 7)
Files are in your Documents folder:
File is called
Find these lines and edit them to what you would like
Save the file and then start BE and it should be applied. (You may need to repeat this again if you mess with the graphics settings in-game)
I'm playing on ultrawide but don't want it to fill the whole screen (or near enough), and don't want to step down to the next res (1920x1200) either, but adjust these settings to your needs
Also note, if playing in windowed mode, even if you set this to max res, I think it still adds a 5-10px border around the sides, and stops the window 5-10px above the taskbar, so it doesn't obscure the taskbar either.
