Can you make a lan connection for multiplayer through Hamachi?
So I'm trying to figure out if it's possible to use hamachi to make a lan connection to my friend's computer so we can play together. Does anyone know if it's possible?

Why would you want to do that?

I actually did that once with Civ 5, however, my friend was the one who hosted so I'm not sure how he did, but I think it is possible :KSmiley:

The same reason anyone wants to use a semi-automatic VPN:
Less work then full VPN
Get's even through the most agressive Firewalls/NAT Filters.
You are idependent of the Internet Play Infrastructure for the game as long as it has LAN support.

Googling revealed some information that Hamachi does not appear to work for BE (yet), but that Tungle seems to do:

But uh... Steamworks performs the same kind of VPN/NAT negotiation as Hamachi does.

Do not discuss piracy, even if you're criticising it rather than advocating it - though advocating it will get you the harshest response.

We are not dicussing piracy.
Sometimes you just want to run your games while steam is in offline mode. It still provides DRM function while in offline mode, so no piracy can take place.
The game prequisites say "Initial installation requires one-time Internet connection for Steam authentication", so I asume Civ BE is designed to run while steam is in offline mode.

The settings might be wrong, causing the MP instability many people reported.
Steam itself might be blocked, or otherwise offline mode for Steam is wanted (for non-piracy reasons). At wich point Steamworks is not working either.
Steams VPN connection might be blocked by something agressive else like a packet inspection firewall. That might just ignore other VPN solutions (since those are usualyl black-, not whitelisting).

The user who mentioned that topic has since edited it out of their post.

Thanks for the help guys, I guess for now we'll have to put off the game.

The same can be said for Tunngle or Hamachi to be sure. And in most cases people tend to be ignorantly assuming Steam just doens't work and make the same required changes to routers that would have made Steamworks work all the same - And without the added bother of making accounts and setting up limited networks.
