TechWeb Achievement '42'
Although I researched every tech there is (I'm 100% sure of this... I made a list and crossed every tech when I researched it), the achievement won't unlock.
Is this probably because 'free techs' don't count toward the achievement? If so, is there a way to view the log-file to find out which tech is missing?

Thanks.

I'm not sure because I had the same issue but with wonders. I made a dummy hotseat game to get rid of some achievs in one blow so the "player 2" wasn'T doing anything but producing energy, that way I was certain to get it all on "Player 1". I did get the achiev "42" when I researched everything on THAT game.

However, I did not get the all wonders achievs, the taigan map achiev nor the difficulty achiev so I'm still in the dark as to is it a bug or is there an achiev blocking thing that I'm unaware of. Hope it helps you a bit.

On the problems seen by Excrucian, there are reports that victory achievements don't get given if you used the 'restart' option at the start of the game to roll a new world/start.

I unlocked this by researching ALL the techs in a SINGLE game, maybe thats what they intended, dunno for sure

Thanks, I'll try that, although, I think it's highly unlikely, cause... researching all techs in a single game kinda contradicts the idea of the web.

I know but it still unlocked when I did all the research in one game, maybe they did that to promote the "one last turn" thingy?

Just to precise on what I said earlier: I did not use any "restart" option in the game.

Same bug, researched all the techs in a single game too.

Yeah, it's in single game, not in multiple games. And you can (have to) use "one more turn" option. The achievement is unlocked instantly when the last tech is researched, not when the game ends.

I think I read in another thread somewhere that if you ever used the max turns option in advanced setup that it unintentionally disables getting achievments for every game after. Not sure if it applies in this case but thought it could be a possible explanation. The pre-patch notes that firaxis put out lists it as a fix that is incoming in the next patch, whenever that may be.

Nope, that seems to be a hoax, I did that quite early, and had no problems getting achievements afterwards.
Also, like others said already, it seems indeed intended to develop every tech in a single game.
Hot-seat match works though. :phoenixstar:

Not a hoax, it is actually listed as a real patch note from Firaxis for their intended first patch. And I can say from experience that I haven't earned a single achievment since setting this many games ago. It may not affect everyone, but enough people have the issue that it is getting an official fix.

I did it by unlocking all the techs in a single game - it's quite easy to do and you might manage it if you're going for a domination victory. Since the health buildings also supply science, you can end up generating enough science to unlock most techs in a few turns each.

It was one of the worst nonsensical achievements to get. After winning a game, sitting there and doing nothing but making all cities do science research and press next turn for about 30-40 turns and still having to update trade routes. It was a chore.

Yeah, I used the time to build some late game wonders for the wonders achievement (still missing some) and also filled three policy trees for achievements.

I got Techweb 42 without having to go the "one more turn" route, and wasn't even trying for it when it was achieved somewhere around my 10th or so game.

Sorry though; I've no idea what I did that got it to work as it should.
