That was in Civilization Call to Power, not a Sid Meier's game...

statement still stands as beyond earth is much simplier than alpha centauri too.

they did it to make civ appeal to more people.
Same reason civ 5 really cut down on the min/maxing and streamlined the heck out of the game.

This is what I expect in the DLCs.

First of that was Civilisation Call to Power. TOTALLY distinct from Sid Meier's Civlisation (it was the Civ 2 publisher, after Sid had changed to Friaxis for Alpha Centauri).

Second it would go against the current game concept. Right now the game goes towards less massive expansion (fewer cities to manage).
The health penalty per city. The Virtue and Tech cost increase per city. The low amount of units you can maintain and field effectively.
All points towarsd a "less is more" approach. Civ 5 even had a "only one citiy challenge" that the player had wanted.

Adding the entire sea and then also space for colonisation would multiply the Nr. of cities possible by 1.5 per map.
Nautical cities do not work properly now, as you can only improove tiles with resources*. And Water Refineries are a bit to mid game to make the viable. Maybe if there was a proper faction bonus like with the SMAX Nautilus Pirates and water.
I rather expect it to be added for the modding community, then as a core game feature.

*on the plus side that means the Orbial Fabricator and Weather control sat are very usefull for water tiles

Considering Sid Meier hasn't had much to do with any game that has his name attached other than look at it once from across a room maybe for several years now that isn't saying much.

Also why do people keep waffling on about CTP not being a "true" Civ?
Who cares? If it's ideas were good, then they were good.

The point about not being a Sid Meier's game is that it hasn't been developed by the same developers, obviously.

And, when did I say CTP wasn't a great game or a "true" Civilization?
This is in fact my favorite Civilization game, and the best in my opinion.
So don't make me say what I never did...

Well, there were a lot of things that were great about CtP and CtP 2 ... like the extension of the Tech Tree into space, the construction of tile improvements via public works points and especially the combat system.

But unfortunately it was very clear that Sid Meier (and/or those designing the newer Civ games for him) didn´t want to get inspired by the other Civ game.
Else we would have seen CtP elements included into Civ already a decade ago ;)

I also have to agree that the opening posting is extremly misleading.
Cities in Space never have been removed from Sid Meiers Civilization, as Cities in Space never were part of Sid Meiers Civ ;)

because this game isn't about building cities, its about racing to a 200 turn victory
