Conquring Cities
Is anyone having trouble taking another Civ's city?

I've been besieging a city for ages, it only has 1 health and a bothersome rocket unit inside it but I still can't take it.

Do you have to take it with a specific unit, do you need a specific research trait or something?

Help!

You mostly just need a unit that can survive the attack into the city.

You need a melee unit I guess (you cant conquer a city with a unit sending rockets or whatever from far away).

Unfortunately, the only trouble I have so far is finding a challenge.

Cities can be conquered easily. My basic attack force consists of two melee units and two ranged (2 artillery can level almost any city in 3-4 turns), for a low-def city, along with other auxiliary forces if it's possible (air support / naval / satellites).

From what I've noticed, a city's targeting priority, when having all these units in it's range is melee > naval > ranged, so your artillery should be fine.

Start pounding it with the range troops, set melee to fortify. Depending on the strength of the city and the size of your army, it might be a good idea to keep 1-2 extra melee units behind as reinforcements, should you require to retreat the initial wave (remember, wounded units are better than dead ones).
Once the city is in the red zone, start waking up your melee troops and close in to the kill.

Also, even though it's not specified (or I didn't see it), defense bonuses are still given for troops in forest tiles (not sure about hills), so keep that in mind when positioning your troops. Ranger units can also be set right next to the city since they rarely seem to be targeted.

I have the problem too, the city is down to "no health" and i cant take it with any of my units... not range units, not infantry... i just cant move into it

by the way, can i target the specific unit thats IN the city?

No issues at all. Killed off all my competitors in my last game. You need a melee unit though. Tanks works fine in this game.

I found the mistake... I wanted just to "move" into the city but I had to melee attack it, then the unite conquered it :)

This info seems to be completely false. 2 Combat Rovers 'humping' a city, 2 Marines in range as well but the city ignores them all and 1-shots my Missile Rovers. Non 'siege' units die in a single turn when thrown against the city and with how much HP they regenerate each turn it is just tedious.

That's because Missile Rovers are horrible and are basically the least valuable unit in the game. Either use Gunners or upgrade them to Artillery. Also this is a 2.5 month old necro.
