Defeat bug
I was just about to starta pretty big war and was moving my units into place (and i havent saved in a while) then i click next turn and BAM, the defeat speech blaring through my speakers. However, no other civ was near victory and the actual defeat screen didnt come up. Instead, one of the civs making a trade with me screen popped up and wouldnt let me click yes or no. Now i have to build like 20-30 turns of me making troops, moving them, etc etc. WHY SID WHY.

Sounds like you hit the max number of turn's limit (400 on easy 500 on standard and 1500 on marathon) which forces the game to end and calculates the victor.

If you go in to the advanced setup and click the "Max Turns" option and set it to "0" it will turn off the game ending because of maximum # of turns.

I think that happened to me as well. I also got the defeat windows, without the ability to continue for just one more turn. I was #1 score-wise, so I don't really get why I would lose.

That's a default option? >_< Man I better hurry then. I'm on turn 310 going for Promised Land.

OK, I replayed from last save. Turns out there is a notification on the right side saying someone else won. Doing what? How close was I? What went wrong?
Not knowing why I lost after 10h of playtime makes no sense. I can't even play one more turn to try to see what happened, this button is greyed out.

I was playing when i was suddenly hit by a defeat screen. i was at turn 280 something with everybody in posesion of their capital and 22 turns untill transenence(i think butured the spelling). one guy did have the beacon built but didnt think (s)he had the energy to use it. i also had no intruige in my capital so i wasnt couped. no little notification said what happened.

oh, if it helps, the screen showed a bunch of destroyed buildings and said something abut thinking we were invincible.
