Aliens Everywhere!
Okay, just started my first game, and I can't get anywhere! I'm surrounded by alien nests, and almost all tiles outside my city have aliens on them(I got the ultrasonic fence, otherwise I would be overrun). Also, misasma repulsor doesn't seem to do anything. Anybody else having problems like this?

I have never used the miasma repulser, but cleaning miasma does work for me.

As for aliens, are you going Purity or something? Otherwise they should not be a problem (I went Harmony). If you are intending to eradicate the aliens though, you need some serious firepower. I would just sit out the aliens until you get some decent weapons. Also, what difficulty? I am playing on Mercury (being new to the game), so I may not be experiencing the same alien infestation.

Remember, if the alien icon is green, they are ambivilant of your presence. If they are yellow, they are becoming terretorial. Red, of course, means Alien: The Movie.

The aliens do cause initial exploration and expansion to be trickier than standard Civ.

From my experience so far it seems to be rule for nests that they will attack any unit that comes within 2 spaces of it so that may help your navigation.

Also early in the tech tree there are 2 techs that stop aliens attacking trade units and explorers which also seems pretty useful (I can't remember what ones as it is still unfamiliar to me but they are early techs around the starting point).

Hope that helps a little :ss13ok:

I am finding they automatically attack anything that comes within 2 spaces of the nest regardless of status as I mentioned in my response to the OP which does make map navigation trickier, especially if you find your initial starting point surrounded by nests.

Nests seem to be the equivalent of "defended barbarian camps" as far as I can tell so far and they are showing up on my map before I have explored an area to give prior warning.

Ultrasonic Fense or Hypersonic Fense or Some-Sonic-The-Headgehog Fense. Whatever, it's a fense, and it can be unlocked as a third or fourth tech I believe.

When you build your first fense, you can choose for it to protect your city borders from 2 tiles away, or protect your trade routes.

Hmm. Maybe you are playing on a harder difficulty. I once had my explorer running around 1 tile away from a next infested with aliens and not one tried to attack.

Level 1 Purity lets the aliens ignore your Explorers.
Also the Defense Grid for your cities (when first built) unlokcs a quest where you can create personal defense shields for your cargo ships/convoys (after which the aliens ignore your trade routes)

Definitely useful things to have

I've never had the aliens attack me , i've seen lots of them but even moving next to them they have never attacked me ( playing on king difficulty or whatever its called now). I think attacking them or there nests provoke them.

The miasma repulsor works for me, but the effect will be first shown after the 10 rounds.

Aliens would say the same thing if they colonize our earth, humans everywhere even in different shapes and colours! :D

I think they attack if you're within two of a nest, unless they are blue status.

I'm going Harmony for my first playthrough, ignoring the aliens and only killing a worm that started wrecking my improvements. I could move the explorer between hordes of them and they would leave me alone. Only attack was while stumbling on one of their nests, but that's understandable.

Nevertheless, aliens started killing my trade units. Also, I met a single alien with my first Colonist, and it immediately attacked and destroyed my unit.

So, it seems like they act a bit as coward barbarians: They leave armed units alone, unless provoked, but like to pounce on defenceless civilians.

I think I'll go Purity next time.

Trade units are killed if they just run in to an alien unit.

I went purity hoping to go bug-hunting. Cleared 2-3 nests and now there's no more bugs :( So much Virtue wasted apparently

The SAFE BEHIND WALLS quest gives you the option for trade convoys not to be attacked by aliens :ss13ok:

I started a different game, and went for the harmony. It seems the game I played earlier was a fluke, since I've barely had any alien contact.
