We cut Strategic View because it was difficult, in it's traditional 2D representation, to reconcile it with the new Orbital System. We understand that visually impaired players use Strategic View to help them see the game better, and it was a difficult choice to make. Our art team is constantly working to make the game more readable, and we're always looking for new solutions.
The current game mode in its 3D state is somewhat difficult to see things. Especially enemy units icon. Hard to tell if its an enemy versus some resource icon.
I find it difficult to play in the 3d normal mode, with 'icons' of units floating over the tile, bleeding over to other tiles. There is no clear visuals. When we enable resource tiles icon and yield icons, its so confusing and very hard to play.
It's possible to have a strategic view mode. And orbital view can easily be a toggle to show the orbital buffs. And toggle it to hide that layer.
No reason why they couldn't have made strategic view mode.
I'm very disappointed in this game actually.
And I like how the Dev insults their audience by says "Visually Impaired", as if only people with vision problems wouldn't want to see the game its glorious graphical 3D state.
I have an older Laptop that I use to like to play Civ 5 on when travelling. But it ran at a crawl when in 3D mode so I had to play in strategic. My current desktop can easily handle it in 3D but that doesn't help me if I out since I use the laptop as my "mobile" gaming platform.
It's like playing Scaveger Hunt or Hidden Objects. The icons between the aliens and yours and other factions is really hard to tell. Especially with the icons 'hovering' over the title and bleeding into another tile so you cant tell which tile they're exactly on.
And I noticed the enemy troops sometimes doesnt even have icons over them. I can't tell who's troop those are. They're 3 tiles away from my guys and there are NO icons over the rovers. WTF is that about.
After playing for a long time now, there is NO excuse for why the strategic mode should have been taken out. The only excuse here is that they were lazy or just rushing this game out the door - since its obvious this game is unpolished. And asking for a $50 price tag is really upsetting.
Also to use the overlays to find Antiquity Sites but in BE there's a decent overlay for finding sites (though the resource one is basically useless since it points out all the stupid basic resources too instead of just the strategics that actually matter)
That excuse they gave is total BS. (so it feels) They just rush the game on a very tight budget, thats the real excuse for not having it.
I loved stragetic view on Civ V. But ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, on Civ BE stragetic view is manatory. I can't see ♥♥♥♥. I can't tell what terrain is what, and where the miasma is located. They really need a stragetic view on this game.
Yeah I know. It’s sad how developers do away with things because they want you to see their shiny graphics. I’ve never been a big fan of the whole 3d graphics for world map in 2D game. Sure it looks pretty but in order to make it look good you have to make things seamlessly blend together which causes problems when you have a very distinct tile separation point for items.
Combine resources, tile improvements, units, and etc. leave the screen full of clutter and noise. This makes it very hard to judge what’s going on at a quick glance. Sure the 3d effects look pretty and are fun to glance at but they don’t convey the information that quickly.
