The Narrator

Let's ignore for a second all the arguing about Civ: Beyond Earth.
Let's ignore the arguments about whether it's Civ V DLC in disguise, about how it needs to be more like Alpha Centauri, about everything.

Am I the only one who actually wants to *stab* the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Narrator lady? Seriously, she's terrible, the Narration is poorly written, and the fact that the Rising Tide tralier opens on her narration actually made me stop watching it.

Everyone's got their preferences. I personally don't like the narrator either. I sort of wish they found some way to get the narrator of Civ5 to do futuristic quotes and stuff, or actually had the individual leaders in BE do their own quotes. Anyways, she does have some good lines that she reads with real passion. Get the Ecology tech. Hit Purity Level 1 or 2. Hit Harmony Level 2. There are some gems there. But yeah, I don't really like the narrator.

I think there's plenty of talented voice actors to go around that its not necessary to use old staples constantly.

RIP Leonard Nimoy but how about Morgan Freeman,James Earl Jones,Sean Connery,Kevin Costner,or Sid Meier's himself.

As if this game would ever be budgeted anywhere near enough money to hire that calibre of voice actor....

If the narrator is poor it only means that she fits in well with the rest of the game.

The narrator isn't great, but I can deal with her voice. For me, it's the tech/affinity quotes themselves that are the problem. "The five _____ of the Earth are..." As much as I like the rest of the game, I can't even defend writing that's this abysmal.

Exactly! I think that Firaxis probably could have used actual quotes from actual people for most techs, and maybe the affinities too. There are a few good lines in the game now, but half of them are by the same person which is annoying.

I also am very annoyed by the technology discovery narrator. I used to skip the discovery pop-ups ASAP until I found a Leonard Nimoy mod.

Such great voice work with the sponsors as well huh? >.> zzzzzzzzzzz...
