There is an IGE in the workshop that works exactly the same as the IGE for Civ 5. It's been out since the first month.

Yes, but in game editors are not quite as powerful are they?

You cannot for instance decide the starting place of you colony as well as all the other colonies for example.

Making my own map in Civ V was great. I can make it as easy or challenging as I want by putting all the players together on the same island or stretching them out so they each have their own continent.. Want more uranium, edit the map. Too much oil, edit the map.

It was very easy to adjust the difficulty level by simply adding/removing resources and changing where the players started. Not mention other nice mechanics as well.

It would be nice to have that much freedom in Beyond Earth.

Well, in Theory you can use Lua to build your map one tile at a time. :p

Anyway, there's no information about what happened to the map editor. There was some information going around that it would be delivered subsequently after release, but then nothing followed.

Seems like they feel like they have more important things to do.

Actually when I started a new game I relaalised that the only maps available are the premade ones.

In Civilization V you can choos a new map and tell it what type you want, what age you want the world to be etc. and the game would make a random map for you.

But as I said, the only maps here are the ones that are premade, the game seems to be incapable of making random maps.

I wonder if there is a link between that and the map editor.

Maybe they are doing what The Sims 3 did, release a major patch in conjunction with an expansions pack. For example basements were added in a patch that came out with the first EP in Sims 3. Maybe they will rlease a major patch that will add a game editor and other features when they release Rising Tide.

No, really, there are basically no premade maps (not sure if there are any). When you start the game and go through the options, it gives you some options with semi-randomly generated names, that are still random maps. You can get to all the parameters for the random map by clicking on the button for advanced start options in the top right during game setup.

Speaking about the IGE mod, anyone having problems getting mods?
Since windows 10 BE has been giving problems, finally got the game to work, but everytime I click on 'Get mods' and the overlay comes up, no matter where I click in that overlay, it sends me back ingame immediatly =/ Any fix for this?

I know set Windows to run the steam overlay as Admin, and the 'get mods' button is gone..xD

Get mods button vanishing is if the game doesn't think the overlay is running, I believe.

A map editor won't be profitable enough for Firaxis, since pretty much a third of the new DLC's content are new map generators.

It would be a FREE tool just like it was in Civ V.

It increases profitability by prolonging the lfie of the game. If people can make maps, they can share them, and if they can share them then it gives people more maps and more scenarios to play with.

This in turn makes the game more profitable by keeping people interested in the game long enough for the company to make new expansions or even a sequel.

Then they make a map editor for the next game and the process repeats itself.

It has been proven that map editors and mods help prolong the life of a game in this matter, making the game more profitable in the long run. This why Bethesda always makes tools for people to mod their games.
