later in civ 5 you have archeology and get artifacts from former ruin places!
The only source that dries up is the progenerator (I know I spelled that wrong) ones. You can continue getting human and alien ones throughout the game. Human artifacts you can get from destroying stations and exploring the ruins, also as random quest rewards. Alien artifacts you can get from nests which constantly respawn, or from killing worms and exploring their remains.
I thought Artifact was the old stuff in the ground and artefact was when your screen was wonky. Like disk and disc.
Exactly! The game always engaged you with map activities throughout even to the endgame. Right now, the map tile interaction ends right after you find X number of artifacts and then the entire world becomes rather boring. Its just a plain rush to the 1 of 3 objectives. They really keep missing the point of the progenitor/alien hive ruins potential. The whole point is to explore an alien world WHILE you are expanding your settlements. What you find and discover defines your new civilization on this world. Right now, its just like "meh, found some alien goo and I burned it for some energy. Whatevs!"
