Of course the game could do somethig to provoke the bug, but:
Its unlikely that the game is doing anything special to the driver, it most probably is using windows abstractions to be able to use all and any devices that connect to the internet, there isnt really any reason why it would make a special routine for that specific device.
The only special hardware games program for are the GPUs because effeciency is important and because there are only 2 different hardwares basically. AMD and Intel.
