Best Approach for Artifact Wonders?

Is it just a case of playing many games and hoping to get three progenitor artifacts, and then hoping those artifacts lead to one of the six wonders which one hasn't currently unlocked?

Well that, and making sure you not only have a number of explorers out there, but also looking for options that can upgrade how many Expeditions they can do before needing to return to a city.
There may also be a need to get some military units up and out to help clear out any aliens that may otherwise be in the way.

Just sitting about hoping you get them is always going to be a part of the process, but being active about getting out there and looking for them is a better part of it.

Another option if you just really want them is to play at Gemini difficulty or below as the AI often just doesn't seem to care that these options exist.

Play a large map with only one opponent, get the Scanner that reveals artifact locations, spam Explorers to collect them. Wait until you have a bunch, save the game, combine them to get one of the Wonders, reload from the save file and combine them differently until you have all the options.
