Plantation vs Farm
Is there any benefit to building a Plantation instead of a Farm on Fruit or Fungus tiles?

Plantation will provide additional yields based on the tile feature, while Farm will remove the tile feature. Here's a list of tile improvements and their effects:

Are you sure about this? I think I remember building a Farm on a Fruit tile in a game I lost the save to, and I think it gave 3 food (1 from Plains, +1 from Farm, +1 from Fruit; I didn't have any Farm-boosting techs yet).

If the only difference is the yields, then with the proper techs Plantation gives a max of +2/+0/+0 for Fruit or +3/+0/+0 for Fungus, while Farm gives a max of +2/+1/+1 with +1 Science; making the Plantation not really worth it.

I may have been mistaken about the tile feature being removed. Still, until you've actually unlocked the techs which improve the Farm, Plantations will be useful. Essentially, once you reach late game, yes farms will out-perform plantations on Fruit and Fungus.

Fortunately for Plantations, there are other resources to build them on.

Farms are better on resources than plantations. You get the same base yield (+1 Food) and don't have to replace them later on. In fact, farms are the best improvement on most resources. If some resource improvement yields +1 Energy, Science, or Food, just put a farm on it instead.

It's one of the oddities that were introduced with Rising Tide, before that you simply could not place farms or generators onto tiles with resources.

It feels like a bit of an oversight to be honest. Probably just something QA missed.

However there are some buildings that require an exploited instance of Fungus so I think in these cases it is worth having the occasional plantation. Also, not sure about the culture option that gives bonus health for each type of exploited basic resource
